  1. I believe that I used Tamiya X-8 which came out pretty well. The linked picture is from my workbench but I don't think I ever showed the final results. https://irishrailwaymodeller.com/uploads/monthly_2018_09/1.JPG.cf54a1ce3bcda3415d1560661dcf8cb5.JPG
  2. I think what we are seeing here is a wider sleeper used under the points. If you look at the mainlines to the background of the picture you will see that the sleepers on those lines appear narrower and at a different spacing. Here is another picture from Little Siddington which you can find on its layout thread.
  3. I just sold an item to the UK and the way eBay shows it is a bit confusing, as they include the VAT, which is removed by PayPal. If you are an Irish seller that is sending an item to the UK you don't need to worry about it. If you are buying from the UK you will pay VAT. I am however unclear how to declare that the VAT has been paid.

  5. Hi Sven, I will be using a servo but I don't have any at the moment. This is the MERG signal, but I have designed by own which is more prototypical for Ireland. Not sure how I am going to design a servo mount without any on hand.
  6. You may be able to etch a wood pattern into the copper clad sleepers - if you want to go to that extra effort.
  7. I voted maybe, but it would be a very big maybe. A small shunting layout with a few items of rolling stock might be possible, but to convert the whole fleet of up to 500 bogies (if IRM keep bringing out stuff that I just have to buy!), it would be expensive and time consuming, no matter how easy it was to do. Of course it could be done, but with most of my fleet still lacking DCC chips, weathering etc, there are other priorities. I do think that 21mm looks great.
  8. I am currently experimenting with some 3D printed signal parts.

  10. That looks amazing! Captures the real thing very well.
  11. There is indeed, it is covered in I-PWY-1141 Engineering Requirements for Passenger Platforms and Barrow Paths. In summary, the yellow line is to be 100mm wide, lettering is to be 250mm tall, and text is to be repeated at a rate of 6 per 100m length of platform for both Irish and English (I think that means 12 total per 100m). The specification varies when there is a requirement to have 'Mind the Gap' on the platform. There should also be a 150mm white line along the platform edge and tactile slabs along the length. This all applies to new platform surfaces. The font is Brunel Positive (apparently), however I use use Transport font, which is widely used for similar applications (as the name suggests). I do have a pdf copy of this document if you want a look. It's a good one for the rivet counters!
  12. The extension pieces are 1mm styrene card cut to shape and painted.
  13. I like the way the barrier wagon came out, a nice amount of weathering.
  14. Work completed on the static grass, and hooked up for a surprise The light sequence is controlled using a PICAXE chip which is located under the board. The nameplate is 3D printed.
  15. I have added extensions to the output chutes on some of my autoballasters and resin loads from Make Your Mark Models.
  16. Thanks George I am happy with it. Final diorama pictures to come soon.
  17. I started this Revell kit in 2016/2017 and am just now finishing up a diorama base to display it on. I intend to static grass around the runway, and I have built a cover for the model from acrylic sheet.
