Another thing I never noticed I guess that didn't really matter to me so.

I used a Bachmann Fairburn as a basis. The closer you look the more differences you see, for example the sweep down just before the cab is missing and there is an additional rib along the boiler. I had thought that this model (https://www.hattons.co.uk/525667/bachmann_branchline_32_350_po21_standard_class_4mt_2_6_4t_80061_in_br_black_with_early_emblem_pre_owned_minor_/stockdetail.aspx) may work but now the front seems a bit off. The Fowler conversion in New Irish Lines is a lot more involved than mine - I just finished my version.

There was a lot of running around, for example at Rosslare Harbour. I found this video which shows locos running around at Cobh and also Limerick Junction.

This wagon was 3D printed, sanded and painted - and represents a prototype beet wagon that was mounted on a 20 foot flat wagon. I don't have a spare 20 foot wagon at the moment but here is the body.

I don't have a layout or dedicated room, so this is the workbench. I have storage and another room for the more workshop type of tools. The 3D printer also lives in the workshop.

Some progress on the workbench. I have started printing of the 40 foot beet wagon bodies and will have a rake of 10 shortly. I tried some heavy weathering on a provincial wagons container and finally finished my model of the Rosslare Harbour lifeboat 5 years after starting it. The decals on this Airfix model are poor quality but I'm just happy that it is done.

The part circled needs to be installed when running on DC, or it needs to be removed and replaced with a digital decoder when running on DCC. Make sure it is installed correctly and is in contact with all the pins. There is a right way and a wrong way to put it in.

Great work Kieran, I look forward to having a fleet of these in OO some day. i myself have just printed a 40 foot beet wagon for myself (see my workbench thread) - a lot simpler than the work you have shown here though! Looking forward to the progress of this.

Thanks, it will hopefully look better when painted and weathered! Thanks Noel. I printed it on my Prusa MK3S which took 6 hours. It is PLA - I tried a test with PETG also. It is pretty study with 2 layers in most places using a 0.4mm nozzle. I have a 0.25mm nozzle but am not sure if it will be of benefit to what little detail there is on it, not to mention almost doubling the print time.

Hot off the presses - the first full test print of the 40 foot beet wagon, sized to fit on the IRM 42 foot flats. Some clean up and refinement required. Print time just under 6 hours. Decals applied to the Dapol B800

The workbench has been very slow - a project that I have been working on is this Dapol B800 track cleaner. I'm not sure how well it cleans the track, but Irish Rail will soon be taking delivery of this track vacuum machine! Painting, details, decals and weathering to be added, but at least it is operational. Unsure if I will go for CIÉ/IR or modern Irish Rail logos.

I have just put together a static grass applicator from 3D printed parts and a module from eBay. A quick test to make sure it works....now I just have to build a layout. Yet another project to start.

I am oiling all of the axles on mine at the moment, all running freely afterwards so happy enough. I do appear to have one bogie which is too tight and is causing derailments so not entirely sure as I have oiled the centre pin as suggested and removed the bogie to scrape away any paint etc. A long run in may help.

Happy Christmas to all! Happy to have received my IRM liners and buffer stops recently. I'm prototyping some new loads to go on a rake at the moment - awaiting some parts for my 3D printer before I print the full body. Some tweaks also required to the 3D model.

I have found Micro Set and Micro Sol to be excellent when applying decals. A few applications of Micro Sol after placement really helps to settle the decal in. I usually brush over a coat of gloss or matt varnish to protect the decal.
