  1. We selected the Heljan O Gauge Modern Depot kit to form the centrepiece for the layout. This was to enable us to plan out the track layout on the boards precisely. The kit goes together fairly well using poly liquid cement although lack of kit precision means that some gaps between sections will need to be masked with styrene strips. So, the project so far:
  2. I am helping a friend develop an O Gauge British Rail outline exhibition layout based in part on my recent OO Diesel Depot. We have started by developing three baseboards using the same techniques namely 6 mm Scandinavian birch plywood 100 mm lengths hot-glued to the underside of the baseboard. The end cheeks were formed from two sections of 6 m plywood stuck together with wood glue before using a pillar-drill to precisely mark the dowel points. Metal dowels were fitted to precisely line up the boards for quick assembly.
  3. Diesel Depot is remotely controlled by the Roco/Fleischmann Z21 DCC system via a tablet allowing the locos to be controlled on one half of the screen and the points/turnouts on the other. This means that the layout can be controlled from the front enabling better interaction with visitors at exhibitions!

Railway modellers and families alike are welcome to view our clubrooms where the O Gauge "Little Siddington" is in preparation for the upcoming South Dublin Exhibition. 5. Diesel Depot is in preparation for the Wexford MRC Open Day on October 20th 2019. On display will be CIE Black and Tan liveried locos:
  6. I used more than 20 Alphagraphix kits for my "Ballybeg" layout in OO. The wagon kits work well too in this scale.
  7. or Glenfarne (based on Alphagraphix kit?)...
  8. Headhunters Barber Shop and Railway Museum is situated on Darling Street in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh just around the corner from the Cathedral Hall where Erne MRC hold their annual exhibition. The museum has been mentioned in posts on IRM previously but I thought I would share a few photos of some of the huge collection of material which is beautifully presented in this building. Well worth a visit if you are ever at the exhibition or in the area.
  9. A couple of views from around the show:
  10. Diesel Depot has won the Best New Layout Award and a Perpetual Shield for Wexford MRC on its first exhibition outing at Enniskillen! Thanks to Erne MRC for organising the exhibition and for their hospitality.
  11. Thanks for that David. We met briefly last year at Telford where I admired your lovely "Arigna" layout! Gerry
  12. Thanks Noel. One of our members is looking at replicating this design in O Gauge! Regards, Gerry
  13. Diesel Depot is ready for it's Exhibition debut at Enniskillen next weekend:
  14. Diesel Depot in IE mode is gearing up for its exhibition debut at Enniskillen next weekend:
  15. MRSI Raheny alternate each year with the South Dublin MRC to hold an exhibition so this year the Dublin Exhibition is at Blackrock College (Cross Avenue Entrance) on October 26th, 27th and 28th (Bank Holiday Weekend) 11am to 5 pm. Wexford Model Railway Club will be there with their O gauge "Little Siddington" layout:
  16. A couple of shots from around a great show - well done Ulster Model Railway Club.
  17. I plan to attend with my Diesel Depot making it's exhibition debut with IE locomotives!
  18. Thank you! SY has been shown 4 times at exhibition and usually gets a good response from the visitors.
  19. You wait years for a 121 and then 12 turn up together!
  20. Buy one, cut it in half, then you have two ends to display at your engine shed!
  21. Mr Soundguy is the original supplier of all Irish diesel loco soundchips and worth supporting - all the other suppliers came later with "me too" products!
  22. All part of the quirkyness that made Irish Railways special!
  23. Great book. Every station on the line is covered with extensive photos and a drawing of the layout of the points and tracks. I used it as an essential reference when developing models of Llangollen, Cynwyd and Llanuwchllyn stations.
  24. I met the author Martin Williams at the Bala MR Exhibition - he published a fine book on the Llangollen (Ruabon to Barmouth) line and has a new book out on the Bala-Ffestiniog branch which is selling out fast and well worth a read.
