  1. Do you know the fastest an 800 was recorded at?
  2. Sorry i meant a railway yard:rolleyes:
  3. In my opinion i partly agree with you.I believe the 800s were useful engines but deprived of their chance to truly be recondnised as this. The Woolwiches were brilliant locos and were well known for their reliability. As for the 400s i think when the 500s were designed 5-6 of the 400s should have been scrapped to make more 500s because when they were 4 cylinder machines they were notoriosly unrealiable.Yes, their rebuilding hugely improved them, but cost the GSR alot. The steel sided coaches were actually a step forward in irish coach building but the GSR did not have to make such a big deal about them. The purple/maroon livery of the BRs mk1s.
  4. Patrick this layout is just brilliant.in every possible way you could you made this a wonderful irish layout in a very interesting era. fantastic in every way.
  5. Hi John.In my opinion,as my goods yard is serving a terminus it would be large and would possibly need a depot crane.
  6. as i was lifting my old layouts track which had been done in the time honoured painstaking way.All other track had come off with little or no damage..but then it came to the flexitrack........looked like no40014and all the other americans had run over it!
  7. Certainly in my choice Peco 75 or 100.hornby doesnt seem that bad, Although there flexitrack is a bit of a nightmare as for points im at a loss. If you see track in a magazine is probably a dud,no electrical charge whatsoever! Really peco is the best track, worth the extra few bob:D
  8. Thanks Nelson the bachmann hoist crane will be on my to buy list!
  9. Thanks all for your contribution.does any stockists have sheer legs or hand cranes. For the PW hut would the yellow huts in hornbys trackside pack be one with a bit of paint?
  10. would you like it before it was modernised?
  11. No fun for literally hours guaranteed! (straight jacket and hall for being dragged away not included)Also availbile FREE wailing child sound affects
  12. Kedleston work on hold until i fully figure out everything with this new plan:(
  13. I dont remember it being to hard to get to.you might need permission. When i asked they said it was fine, but just be on the safe side if you want to get up close.Freight very rarely if ever comes to mullingar.I only found out about the ballast train when i saw it standing on the railway bridge,to my joy hauled by an 071 class which hadnt been seen in mullingar for a long time.Otherwise mullingar is a few DMUs passing par the RPSI tours and the odd timetable mix up ending up in two angry drivers and one of them having to bring their train back to the station to one of the other tracks.everything seems to happen on mullingars railway bridges!
  14. Although it is a good idea the downside is irish rail would not put money into the storage sidings. Many points are broken and most sidings would have to be ripped up.They might upgrade the line to the turntable and engine shed,or if the luxury train company invested in Mullingar(which would make me mullingars happiest young man)However they are going to have to pay some sort of attention to the disused station as it seems ready to collapse. As for freight im not sure but the pw yard did not dissapoint me!You might(all though unlikely)see a PW or ballast train at mullingar.last time i saw a ballast train was about 5 months ago so not sure if they will be around any time soon!
  15. Thanks Broithe.Do you have any pics of it back in the day? Also if anyone has old pics of mullingar yard/westport yard
  16. Hi guys.Since im building a yard for kedleston i knew it needed some buildings. But very few layouts are set in the 50s in ireland,so im not sure what to put in the yard(par an engine shed, water tower and turntable)
  17. Certainly like the look of the luggage van.........
  18. Hi guys.800 is about 75 percent complete par the wiring :mad:and crankpins:mad:and some other small stuff. To save me from the mental a good friend, who has been very helpful and has supported me (supplying me with necessery equipment for my endeover)has said that he would finish her off. A better idea,as i am hopeless when it comes to wiring
  19. Bit strange but, considering the Scotsman now nearly 100 years old was still working (despite her seeming to be constantly in doncaster with cracked crankpins) so if the steam era for some reason had never been brought to an end or effientcy of steam had improved to provide instant steam(this was already discussed in another post)i dont see why the 800s wouldnt have lasted into 2000 or even later.I also bring up the question why werent they converted to oil burning?
  20. Great work as usual! The orange "stripe" and black line seems to be a modern design with a bit of the old black n tan livery
  21. the money does put me back all right.went to buy some tracks and had nothin left in my pockets after!but as long as you dont spend your life savings..............or college funds...........
  22. In his picture of thurles engine shed he captures one of the 800s on shed
  23. No,Time for Ted!
