  2. Progress has made since my last visit 2 weeks ago. Looking good and nearly finished phase one.
  3. The GNR operated some bus services in County Donegal.including a service from Killybegs to Malinmore via Glencolumbkille
  4. In the 1980s for a while there was a Hunslet set pus coaches did a Friday Only run Belfast to Derry and back in the late afternoon for a number of years. Still waiting on photos of Mk 2s on Larne line itself?
  5. The rumour always was that it was built for a cancelled railway in 1895 which is how it ended up at the twin towns. A bit like the rumour of the engine swallowed by the peat bog when building the Burtonport Extension. Sounds interesting your news that is!
  6. Nice photo of the massively over scale bridge between Stranorlar and Ballybofey
  7. Ballymena yes but Larne now that is a question?
  8. Interesting speculation about how the Swilly and the County Donegal could have fared under GSR/CIE control on page 55!
  9. When I arrived home this evening after a research trip with photos of stations closed in 1935 that there have never been photos published before. This new book was waiting for me so I fully appreciate the hard work of the Author tracking his rare photos etc down etc Well Done JHB 171
  10. Still waiting on my copy to arrive but have already been sent some positive messages. Have more photos of railways in NI still to use from same source from 1965
  11. There was an article on the Banagher branch in a recent issue of Railway Bylines magazine
  12. Some NCC coaches were of course ex Midland Railway coaches sent over after the Belfast Blitz of 1941 from the LMS parent company.
  13. The coach that ended up at Fintown for years was very similar to the coach built for Dromed Travelled in them.both.
  14. Have ordered a copy from the publisher direct as I detest buying from Amazon!
  15. Note mixed gauge track at Whitehead from Sunday
  16. Yes indeed that coach was at Fintown and only used once at its lunch event! Had been bought from Alan Keef for the Shane's Castle but never ran there to my knowledge. Similar to another Alan Keef coach built for and used at Dromod.
  17. Where and what is Lullymore?
  18. One of the trams was sold to a local pub a few miles outside Fintown. Noted last week that the former tram had vanished and was told it had been sold for scrap!
  19. From photos seen on Facebook the shunter was back in use by the weekend. In that part of the world this Thursday so will double check what they are using. The former Belgian trams were sold off along with the coach bought from Shane's Castle. Nothing left at Fintown except Railcar 18 and the shunter!
  20. Stenlake have now taken over Oakwood Press and must get a copy myself soon possibly at the launch!
  21. A rear view showing bogie waiting to be fitted soon
  22. Update from Whitehead over the weekend major progress made. Bogie and pony truck shunted into position. Cab and side tanks added to the frames. Will be finished by end of this month before returning to Donegal Railway Heritage Centre in about 6 weeks time.
  23. The only Irish Railway with 4-6-2T engines was the Lough Swilly. From 3 different builders, 4 different designs of just two locos per class! The Swilly never believed in standardisation!
  24. Know that the story of the Narrow Gauge koco at Boness well. The steam engine was restored and even passed a boiler test about 10 years ago. When it came to paying the Bill's and arranging transport costs and creating required facilities. The response was Oh Dear how much? We cannot afford that so the loco stayed in Scotland. That is what happened to the plans for steam at Fintown whose entire rolling stock is a failed shunter plus Railcar 18 as observed a few days ago in person.
