  1. Sorry for posting photo of the A Class at St Johnston in 1961. Check out your own IRRS Journal 186 instead. At least 1 made it to Derry and a couple as far as Omagh after 1958.
  2. From IRRS Journal 186 confirmed by an ex GNR man who acted as pilot man for CIE staff. [Image removed at request of copyright owner]
  3. For the record an A Class made it to to Derry at least once and to Omagh a few times before the Derry Road closed in 1965.
  4. GNR Railcar A would have been perfect for this duty
  5. Very good article there from Railway Bylines who are now aiming to have an Irish article in most issues now. Was proofing a new CDR article this morning and the June issue will have an article from myself on the County Donegal.
  6. Correct will get a photo when I am down at Larne Harbour again some day this week.
  7. Olderfleet modified but still there 76 was of course River Inver!
  8. Another photo of Larne Harbour
  9. Apogies David got confused with the steam trams. Top one is Cultra In a light green livery that is wrong. The RPSI have made the same error with LPHC No 3 despite LPHC No 1 being in original livery at Cultra See photo below of CDR rolling stock in correct colours at Stranane August 1959
  10. There is also a photo of BCDR 30 in the York Road pant shop around 1961 in UTA in Colour book
  11. Blanche is a bit of a mess and Columbkille is more accurate as both were stored under cover after closure behind locked doors. When Drumboe repairs are completed it will now receive correct CDR Red livery. Doing an article on CDR rolling stock using 1950s colour photos and wagon No 136 seems to have been repainted plus the Hornby style black paint applied There is a good photo of CDR wagons in colour from 1959 in my article on Strabane in the May issue of Backtrack that is just out now. Luckily CDR coach No 1 is in original paintwork.
  12. Too be fair to Cultra the bottom photo of one of two surviving Portstewart Tramway locos is in the correct livery Top photo is of the other surviving NCC tram loco at Hull Museum in a livery closer to the LNER than the BNCR!
  13. What about the LLSR or the NCC Narrow Gauge?
  14. Dread to think what they will do with some of my Swilly material as the film is has already been used at Waterford! My Donegal stuff has featured at Achill already Suppose my DNGR stuff will now make it to Bushmills next with Patrick?
  15. By the way if you are in the UK Series 1 of Walk the The Line only available until this Friday What a contrast with Edna's Greenways. The Achill branch was Narrow Gauge which explains the County Donegal film clip last night. Next week the West Clare whicj.features Mallard!
  16. Looking forward to the Achill branch tomorrow night. Here we can see the secret visit of Tornado instead of an Achill bogie!
  17. Agree having had a coffee and a second look at No 6 that is around the 1920s and likely to be from the same time asNo 17 then. Second BCDR photo between 1947 and 1952. Some English enthusiasts came to visit the BCDR when it was listed for closure so will still go for 1949 with the short lived Coaling plant. The GNR photo does look like the shed at Dublin now used by the RPSI.
  18. In relation to BCDR photos would say around 1949 and both locos remained in service until 1952/3 when replaced by the MEDs. Coaling plant authorised after end of WW2 using compensation money and modelled on the York Road example and completed by early 1947 just before the UTA take over and destruction of the BCDR system in 1950.
  19. That is a possibility as right up to the closure of the Derry Road a substantial amount of freight went to St Johnston daily except Sunday for Co Donegal
  20. Would ne interested in Mk 1 coaches book as well still?
  21. Enjoyed by film clip of the Lough Swilly supplied with photos for episode 4 being used to transport Derry to Waterford for a day. Will wait now for my photos of Greenore Hotel to appear at the "Giants Causeway Steam Railway" sponsored by the local dodgy MP!
  22. Agree 100% on that one. Have seen a similar photo in a history of Derby Works. The Jeeps were also built at Derby and shipped from Heysham in parts as well.
  23. Last BCDR photo looks like No 6 from the 1930s at Ballynahinch. Keep me posted about the CDR as always!
  24. The worst thing about the Giants Causeway Railway is that tin tram contraption that scares passengers away. Introduced by Dodgy Del the owner because it was cheaper that the steam locos that were flogged out in the last few years under the "new management!"
  25. The C and L locos were similar in that way to the last years of the three CDR Class 5 tanks which meant that each if the last e had some minor differences and features compared with their sisters. Parts from Blanhe and Foyle are still to found on the surviving locos today!
