Gabhal Luimnigh Posted November 26, 2023 Author Posted November 26, 2023 And we're off! Forgive the mess and builders site look but impatience got the better of me and I had to try a loco at least. VID_20231126_190500.mp4 9
DJ Dangerous Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 Great to see something running! The blood, sweat and tears were definitely worth it. 3
Gabhal Luimnigh Posted November 27, 2023 Author Posted November 27, 2023 Red oxide effect on the bridge ironwork. 8
Bob229 Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 All worth it to have trains running the bridge looks excellent 3 1
Gabhal Luimnigh Posted November 29, 2023 Author Posted November 29, 2023 Both lines tested now so busy weekend ahead, I will hopefully glue down the track bed and fix the track to the base, then scenery, ballast, etc etc etc. VID_20231129_174233~3.mp4 11

I have never done ballasting before Derek so I'm kinda looking forward to it, there is lots of track but it gives me scope for lots of scenery and backdrops, I have no idea of the final look yet.

Patrick Davey Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 Cracking video - nice to see the diesels' smooth slow running. Enjoying the updates GL! 2 1
Gabhal Luimnigh Posted December 2, 2023 Author Posted December 2, 2023 Experimenting with different shades of ballast in different areas. 9
Bob229 Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 A good mix of ballast a darker shade looks well in the station area 1 2
Gabhal Luimnigh Posted December 2, 2023 Author Posted December 2, 2023 This is going to take a loooooooong time 10
derek Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 How are you applying the ballast Denis? Just laying it down, and then gluing or what? Spraying on glue? I use double sided tape, but I could be in the minority with that one. It makes for a lot quieter running of trains, but it is a pain in the proverbial as you have to build in the sides afterwards. Having tried glue a long time ago, I just couldn,t put up with the noise when loco passed over glued section. 1

PVA/water mix with a few drops of washing up liquid, I forgot the washing up liquid firstly and the glue wasn't soaking through, it makes a big difference, if it gets too noisy I'll just turn up the music 1

Just turn up the radio 1 2

Gabhal Luimnigh Posted December 18, 2023 Author Posted December 18, 2023 Ballast finished, I'll give the PVA time to set and then vacuum the stray stuff, tomorrow I will start thinking about the background, buildings, roads, bridges, walls, fences etc etc etc, I love holidays 11
Rob Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 Well done on completing the ballasting- a real landmark 1 2 1

Looking good Two road bridges planned Derek, one stone bridge and one steel bridge that I got from a decent chap on here 49ish meters of track ballasting is enough for one lifetime 1

Gabhal Luimnigh Posted December 20, 2023 Author Posted December 20, 2023 It has to look worse before it looks better , first picture is bridge into what will be an industrial area and the other bridge is access to the town and station side. 5
Gabhal Luimnigh Posted December 22, 2023 Author Posted December 22, 2023 More progress, the pictures should tell the story, initial painting is soil and concrete effect before the finish, the embankment is a new addition. 7
derek Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 You have been busy Denis. That sloping/sweeping road down from the bridge is class 2 1
