Classic Irish business acumen disrupting the market by importing European and Asian following on from Zetor tractors in the 1940s, Pino Harris importing Hino trucks during the 70s and the McGowan brothers importing Trix and Liliput model trains direct from the manufacturer much to the consternation of the UK Trix and Liliput distributors.

I think, certainly with the age of farmers here and certain loyalties those have with certain brands may lead this one to blow over 

 

some 50 percent of the tractors sold here are between 3 brands

Dunno but as the BEV market in Ireland is currently exploding sales wise, Chinese brands such as MG and BYD are making serious inroads taking big market share slices delivery quality, extras at incredible prices. Volvo is owned by Geely too. Remember its not like the 1960s, nowadays the best quality electronic consumer devices such as iPhones, iPads, tablets, smart watches are mainly manufactured in China, along with model trains!

Chinese car companies BYD and MG have come from nowhere. These companies are the Toyota of the future. Electric car sales July 2023 Ireland. RTE are in 8th place.  This Tsunami of change has only started.

Never underestimate the fact that farmers love a good deal   ... and as Mayner pointed out, its been done here before. Noel's right too, I think, about the direction of travel in the wider auto industry. Sure lets see what happens.

Here on big island MG's are everywhere but usually combustion engines.  I'm very surprized Chinese HGV's are not here yet.

A fair few MG EVs in London - the Uber cab drivers are increasingly going around in MG5 EV estates, which look like a cross between a Toyota and a VW Passat.

Yip & My last new holland tractor cost less than those Chinese prices.

Anyone going to the Ploughing Championships could check these out. Give them a good going over to see how things are placed in the engine area, ease of access for servicing etc.

I still have a feeling that farmers will much easier fall to a second hand tractor then these yokes. One of Our tractors cost 60k in 2005, 45 was offered for it after nearly 20 years labour.
