Containers: IWT

No container section on the forum so I guess the vehicle section is the best place for container threads for now.

Picked up a few AWM brand IWT 45' containers in 1:87 recently. I was unaware they even existed until @MOGUL pointed them out to me.

Overall they're nicely decorated. The print is much higher quality than Dapol print. Unfortunately, the locking bars are moulded, not seperate, and are body coloured, not metallic.

Length is very similar to a 1:76 40' box, about 2mm shorter, so they'd probably fool the eye on some IRM flats in motion. Height and width are going to be issues but again, in motion, and placed flush with the viewing side of the flats, they might be passable.

Not for the hardcore puritans, but probably good enough for anybody prepared to accept TLC's.

They were quite cheap, think around a fiver each on eBay. Definitely worth grabbing for that price, in my humble opinion.

There were other sellers with them for €15 to €20 a pop at the same time.

Does / did anybody do these in 1:76?

When did this livery first appear?

Also found this image online by @hurricanemk1c / Kieran Marshall, published December 13th 2014.

Apologies but I can't figure out how to download the image in order to upload here, so I can only post the url, so this one won't feature in search result previews on the forum.

IWT box, Drumcondra, 13/12/14

Good to see some interest in our containers! We have 35 CXSU(Cronos) boxes and another 17(was 18 but a certain infamous bridge in the midlands changed that) IWTU boxes which are former CLDN unit that have been debranded and renumbered(more pics to follow when I’m at the PC)..

That video brings back good memories, some of my finest work getting the train to be mostly IWT containers and van den Bosch smiley tanks, which coincidentally Hornby are releasing with their KFA wagon in the new year..

Raises the question(which I have put on back burner for a few years), if a twin pack of IWT containers in the two main liveries ( with and without orange bands) was to be made, would there be many takers?

Once they weren't Dapol nor handmade Adverts.ie jobs, I'd take truckloads of them. Get it?

Here’s the pickle, Dapol are the only ones with a 45ft tooling and the cost to tool up for one or two runs of twin packs would be prohibitive, especially as them being OO gauge means they are unlikely to sell in Europe..

So it’s Dapols best printing or nothing really..

Thinking about it more, two twins pack could work

1) Basic blue Cronos livery(with horse and 45ft corner sticker), plus a unit 45 box or a brown Cronos unit(this would allow you to re use some artwork) these would be more general appeal so suitable to the UK market also to get volume up but still very suitable for Ireland..

Brown Cronos, common to DFDS, IWT and XPO liners:

Unit 45, ditto

2) IWT Twin pack, one with Orange Band and one without..

I'd buy a pack with a brown Cronos and blue Unit 45, even with Crapol print, because they're so common here, but wouldn't bother with the IWT's or anything.

They might manage the one without the orange band but they'd make a total mess of the ones with the band.

*shudders at the thought*

If IRM were to release a Project 47 with some of @Arran's C-Rail 45' boxes, that might be the start of C-Rail 45's, and we'd no longer have to settle for crappy Dapol.

Probably worth waiting for that instead.

I don't understand how it's just their containers that are so crap, yet they can get the wagons looking so well.

Crapol - what a load of sh1t...

We have tooled the CIE 20’ containers and also the weed spray 20’ so some irm 20’, 40’ and 45’ tainers and tankers are not out of the realms of probability.

If they outcome of my suggestion is nudging you guys towards moving project 47 up the schedule by a few places I’m happy! As I have told Patrick before I can supply as much research material as is needed, I have a WhatsApp group with over 1200 media files attached to it, mostly pictures of containers!

Please no more promises with the ensuing disappointment. Tell us when you are actually doing something and stop alluding to what might be.

Telling you something is ‘probable’ is neither a promise nor any source of ‘disappointment’ tho how anything IRM produces could disappoint intrigues me. When we’re ready to deliver something we will announce it and then we will deliver it. We’ve never announced anything that’s not then been delivered.

Twelve months ago you said this;-

" I can promise several things next year, including steam,"

You didn't keep that promise, that's what I mean by disappointment.

Fair comment however we also changed to a model of launching things much later in the development cycle to avoid disappointment over timelines and delays. We have spent more in the last 18 months on IRM tools than we have since we started 9 years ago. But no ‘promises’ will be made, froth frothed or hints alluded to in future until we are ready. It seems we’re damned if we do and if we don’t :)

This, this right here is the first negative point I've ever come across for not having Whatsapp.

Damn you, @MOGUL, for crushing my hopes and dreams right at the start of the year, damn you all to Hell!

Also 20ft open tops(Cawoods) and 20ft Gypsum boxes( which are similar to the boxes being used for the clean up of Roche in Ennis)..

And all the unusual nuke 20fts

True. What type of weirdo goes around taking photos of containers?

Actually, now that I think about it...

Man, all this talk of containers has me thinking of walking away from GT7 and going looking for a nice box.
