Mayner Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Excellent work getting better with each new project, the outside W Irons and brake cross shaft in combination with the subtle weathering really transforms the model . Quote
krose Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Superb workmanship and excellent attention to detail, well done Nelson Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 Thank you everyone, I appreciate it, once the exams have finished and summer begins, I'm hopefully going to be building a few more to build up a decent rake for exhibitions. Many thanks Nelson Quote
73.River.Roe. Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Great photos Nelson and fantastic looking wagons you have worked hard and it has paid off for you.... WELL DONE... Quote
David Holman Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Seriously good stuff Nelson. It is great to see you make the extra effort to convert /scratchbuild wagons, rather than rely on commercial clones. It is what modelling the Irish scene is all about & I sense a real momentum for this on other folk's pages too. Long may it continue. Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 Thank you David, your work is what made me want to step up a level, very inspirational. Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted May 18, 2014 Author Posted May 18, 2014 Hello everyone, Since school work and exams are slowing things down, I decided to do a small project, a small photographic plank. This would be my first proper attempt at any thing like this, ignore the white bits in the pics below that's just the PVA, it hasn't completely dried yet. I'm thinking about varnishing the wood, what do we think? Many thanks Nelson Quote
David Holman Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Add a backscene, Nelson. Only needs to be a bit higher than your stock, but will make a very effective place to photograph all that fine stock you are building. Could be something you draw/paint yourself or a bit of landscape photo. There are some commercial pics out there [some better than others], but making your own should be well within your capabilities. You'll be in good company too. Master modeller and weathering expert Martyn Welch has long used something similar, as many photos in Model Railway Journal testify. The 'plank' works well by the way. Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted May 18, 2014 Author Posted May 18, 2014 Thank your for your comment David, ill experiment with a back scene and see how it looks, Quote
Dave Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Ballasting is excellent, a backcene will make all the difference. Quote
Aussie Phil Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Brilliant stuff. Still blows me away your only 15. Top class stuff. Agree about the backscene. I had similar when modelled HO Aussie stuff and used a 10-12 Matt photo as backscene and looked great with a model in front of it. Cheers for sharing. Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 Hello everyone, This is my recently finished Dapol coach kit which has been painted into the UTA livery, although not 100% accurate it is close enough for me as I have no carriges to run with my engines. I'm sorry for the bad cropped photos, I only took quick shots, next to come over the next number of weeks are 6 more GNRI resin kits and a NCC U2. Many thanks Nelson Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 I've just released how awful the pictures look in the above post, ill get better ones tomorrow for you all. Quote
jhb171achill Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Very neat job indeed, Nelson. The crest looks good - all too often UTA crests on models are too big in scale. Quote
Hunslet 102 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Great job on the coach Nelson, can I ask where you got the UTA crest from? Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 Thank you hunslet, I bought the crests off a friend, But railtec sell some very nice looking ones (although I cannot say for sure as I haven't bought any but I will do in the future) Quote
Hunslet 102 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Thanks Nelson,I think the railtec ones are overscale,so you may want to confirm that before making any purchases. There is a company that does bus transfers which I am sure also does the UTA crests which are the correct scale for the coaches, but for the life of me I cant remember their name,I was hoping that was where you had got yours from!Your friends crests look great, pity he did not have some more! Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 I heard the railtec ones have now been fixed and are now the correct scale and colour, (although I may be wrong), is the company your looking for, sunrise transfers (I think that's what they are called?) Quote
Hunslet 102 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Thats the one Nelson-thanks.That is interesting to know about the railtec transfers, maybe some of the other guys could confirm it. Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 No problem, I to would be interested in hearing from people who bought them recently. Quote
murrayec Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Hi Nelson Nothing wrong with those photos, I can see how nice it is from here. Very nice murrayec Quote
73.River.Roe. Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Andy are you thinking of Mabex Transfers??? They did do UTA and NIR motifs because I bought loads of them years ago. Colin. Quote
73.River.Roe. Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 I have an order coming from Railtec so I let you both know what the crests are like... Colin. Quote
73.River.Roe. Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Hi Nelson just to let you know that the Railtec coat of arms crests for the UTA is correct size for coaches and railcars..... I checked them today. Colin. ps good work Steve.. Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 Fantastic, thanks for letting me know, an order will be placed very soon. Quote
73.River.Roe. Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Your very welcome Nelson, listen if you only want a couple of crests etc I can give you some in the mean time if you need them... Colin. Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted June 25, 2014 Author Posted June 25, 2014 (edited) Hello everyone, Since my last post (the UTA carriage) there has been nothing new im ashamed to say on the workbench, basically because of school work etc... And all this fine weather but hopefully when the summer holidays come then ill be able to get back to proper modelling, last week I decoded to build a italeri panzer 3, Here it is, the Panzer III (3) by italeri, this is a nice simple kit, there's nothing really hard to do it but there is a large scope for detail. Last year I built one (as seen below) and I think it turned out quite well, but now I've got another kit of the exact same model but this time I'm going to see if I've improved in any way and see if it can be better than my first one. I've modified the commanders hatch so that it is now open, and I've also added battle damage but I'll show yous that when I've painted the tank in the next update, I'm going to leave it unmarked that way if I have a plan for a diorama in the future the. I won't have to worry about incorrect markings. To go along with the tank I've got 3 German panzer crew figures and they will be painted and placed on the tank to look as if they have stopped and are talking to eachother. Last years model Modified commanders hatch. I know not everyone will be interested on this but I thought I might as well keep yous all updated. Thanks for reading, Nelson Edited June 25, 2014 by Dunluce Castle Quote
