DoctorPan Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Considering that like a lot of people, Covid 19 has given me a lot of free time and I've been able to step back into the world of building models again. My latest project was a repaint of a Oxford Janus that I acquired extremely cheaply off a friend as he had pruchased the train pack and only wanted the wagons. 30 quid cheaper and I was the proud owner of a handsome smooth running model but an ICI liveried loco stuck out among my Irish collection so a quick repaint over the weekend into a CIE inspired green turned 'Richard' into CSÉ No.1 'Edel' Just needs some final touch ups but sits well within my fleet of beets (the first lockdown project back in March! How time seems to fly) 4 Quote
DoctorPan Posted September 22, 2020 Author Posted September 22, 2020 The shunter in daylight. A kitbash of old Airfix kits into a structure inspired by Waterford Cabin. Interior all set up for interior lighting lighting and ready for glazing. 9 1 Quote
DoctorPan Posted October 17, 2020 Author Posted October 17, 2020 Been having fun over the last month starting to build up some out of period stock for me (More of a IR era person myself) but always had a soft spot for the steam era so some rakes of flying snail adored coaches (and GSR maroon survivor) have passed through my workbench. 9 Quote
DoctorPan Posted November 7, 2020 Author Posted November 7, 2020 First part of the Sligo liner train completed tonight. IRM container on IFM 20ft flat. 9 Quote
Robert Shrives Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 Hi Looking good , Railtec do some Irish wagon transfers https://www.railtec-models.com/img/4mm/5789-1.jpg and https://www.railtec-models.com/img/4mm/5788-1.jpg these would give some official marks to go on the underframe and perhaps others in the range will help with the others. Robert I had considered getting them for some offical marks but decided the effort to fit them wouldn't be noticed at the 2ft rule. Quote
Robert Shrives Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 Dear Dr. ! I had thought much the same but as the popular phrase - "hard to un see" when you know they should be there. I went back and added to tanks and my IFM flats - I also added some axle box and springs from Lanarkshire models these lift the model another level. All skill adding and with time and steady hand improves models. However it is yours and if the two foot rule is achieved then enjoy all you do! Robert Quote
DoctorPan Posted January 17, 2021 Author Posted January 17, 2021 While the run up to Chrstmas saw very little modelling due to work commitments, January has seen some spare time to resume modelling. Two conversions of RTR stock on the go atm, a J15 and a 800 (idenity TBC) in various stages of testing colour mixes as well as finishing off a second shunter for the CSÉ 8 1 Quote
Galteemore Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 (edited) Nice work. Bit more info on what you did to get here would help many forum members along their modelling journey, I think - eg the 800 class - is that a Royal Scot conversion ? Edited January 17, 2021 by Galteemore Quote

Sure, the J15 started life as a Hornby Dean Goods and the 800 is the old Bachmann Royal Scott, picked up cheaply from Hattons prior to Christmas. 1 Quote

As far as I'm aware they aren't in his shop. Ok. Do you have a link for his eBay account? Also, where is his shop online? I tried contacting him via Facebook but no luck... Quote
StevieB Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 If you google Irish freight models Facebook, you find him. This is where you reach his store. I believe his original website got hacked, or something similar, so he resorted to using Facebook. I’ve always found Tom a very good guy to deal with. Stephen Quote
DoctorPan Posted January 19, 2021 Author Posted January 19, 2021 And this is his ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/helix0_8?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 Quote

DoctorPan Posted January 19, 2021 Author Posted January 19, 2021 Not as far as I'm aware but he does put models on ebay from time to time. Over the last few months a weedspray coach, some 47fts, 4 20ft flats, Brake Laminate and bits have appeared on it. Quote
Irishswissernie Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Tommy Brady (aka Helix on E Bay) and Irish Freight Models has a 'store' page on Facebook which I have just checked and everything is shown as 'Out of Stock' Ignore the Web site address on facebook as he says this was hacked many years ago and if you click on it there is just a load of unrelated stuff - nowt to do with railways. StevieB Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 If you contact Tom with your wishlist, you may be pleasantly surprised at the response. Stephen Quote

DoctorPan Posted February 11, 2021 Author Posted February 11, 2021 Transfers along with name and number plates from Des dry on 801 Maca I turn to a subject matter I've had an itch to try since seeing David Holman's wonder 7mm versions. Now mine maybe 4 wheelers but I do think they capture the unique look of the turf coaches. I have another coach on the bench ready for construction. 7 Quote
Galteemore Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Very nice work on both. Coach - that a Ratio donor? Quote
DoctorPan Posted February 12, 2021 Author Posted February 12, 2021 Yeah, have another one ready to build to have a small rake of them. 1 Quote
DoctorPan Posted February 21, 2021 Author Posted February 21, 2021 (edited) Another weekend, another completed build or two! First up the Deans Goods into J15 bash: Secondly, the turf coaches. Edited April 1, 2021 by DoctorPan Restoring some lost images 7 Quote
DoctorPan Posted March 13, 2021 Author Posted March 13, 2021 A on a whim purchase! Was made aware of this 90% complete conversion of a Hornby Stainer 2-6-4T into a Jeep and just had to have it. Joins the back of the workbench crew but plans are to finish her off as the lovely No.4 7 Quote
Mike 84C Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 A very lucky purchase! from the photo its a tasty looking model! Quote
Galteemore Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 (edited) Nice. That’s a very fair effort. NCC locos and their UK equivalents can be like the ‘false friends’ you get in language learning - a word that looks like one you know but is actually very different! There’s a host of subtle differences between a WT class and any Stanier/Fowler/Fairbairn/Ivatt. This model captures the NCC look nicely though. A smokebox door wheel and a UTA roundel will be the icing on the cake! Edited March 13, 2021 by Galteemore Quote
DoctorPan Posted March 29, 2021 Author Posted March 29, 2021 latest project on the go, a fueling point for a micro layout I decided to build during lockdown annual leave. Just needs painting 10 Quote
DoctorPan Posted July 26, 2021 Author Posted July 26, 2021 A venture into a smaller gauge and a new topic. Inspired by the work of two of my friends experiements in narrow gauge gauge gave me an itch that needed a bit of scratching and plans for a small micro layout for the other set of boards that Backwood used started to be lazily sketched out while preparing for a house move. While the boards await track and for a finalised plan, the railway that was to be the subject of the still unnamed layout was an easily decision and chance for a little more fun prototype. Pints to anyone who knows their stories... The first major train was the line's top link train, ran for tourists during the summer, bringing them from the port up into the mountains, dropping them off at beauty spots for picnicing and hiking, earning the nickname of The Picnic. The rake just awaiting couplings and windows. Oh and a loco to haul them! 5 Quote
DoctorPan Posted December 19, 2021 Author Posted December 19, 2021 The wind down towards Christmas and no Dublin Santas meant I had some time to bring out the modelling workbench and finish off some stalled projects, mainly this one: Kitbash and motorisation of a Kirbi RRV kit and strach build of one of its trailers. Need to fashion up some form of couplings between the two. Also started on two of Leslie's brown vans. 3 Quote
DoctorPan Posted December 23, 2021 Author Posted December 23, 2021 A brief and quick cameo of some tins, and like all good Christmas tins, whisked off to be kept until the big day! 3 Quote
