  1. Enjoyed watching that video. Nice and informative with good insight into a very sophisticated engineering process that employs humans in preference to robots. Seems to lift the expression handmade to a higher level. Would enjoy watching similar for the 121 and the A-Class. Thanks for the link ShaneC
  2. I get the impression it is about 15" dia. Noel, I had to have a second look to see the 'guy stretched out laying across the wheel'. I hadn't noticed that before and then wondered if the wheel was forming a halo. However, when you look again you see that the stretched guy is in fact the thigh of the person holding the wheel on the right. His knee is at the axle hole and if you follow on down through the calf you see he is wearing a boot. An optical illusion? A trial piece with two good logos?
  3. None at all. Was given a photo and asked, Would any of your friends know what that is? I was told it is very heavy and I got the impression from hand gestures that it's about 15" dia.
  4. Anyone identify this?
  5. Don't have any of Dargan's working drawings, plans or maps. Might be worth checking to see if there is anything with the folks at Trinity College's Glucksman Map Library Glucksman Map Library - The Library of Trinity College Dublin - Trinity College Dublin (tcd.ie) For images and references K A Murray wrote Ireland's First Railway and on page 114 there's a view of the front Facade and on page 225 there is a plan diagram of the two span building. You can also see the facade at 1834 – Westland Row Station, Dublin – Archiseek – Irish Architecture Link to GeoHive and search for Westland Row. Then from the Base Information and Mapping select the Historic Map 6 inch colour and use the transparency slider to sharpen the old image. Gives a small plan of the Railroad Station Ho. (You might need to zoom out if it's saying the image is not available) Note the narrow buildings on the platform and if you have access to IRRS photos on flickr you can see some of these in the background of RNC_DSER_455_Westland_Row_04_Sept_1926 | [Photographer: Robi… | Flickr While light on description of the station building the Dublin Penny Journal, vol. III, August 30, 1834, No. 113 has an account of The Dublin and Kingstown Railway which has great background reading. There are also some accounts by Kevin Murray in the Old Dublin Society journals. Hope this helps. Best of luck with the project and Happy St. Patrick's Day
  6. Looking back to the first photo on the thread, this latest say it all. Superb Eoin.
  7. Great news. Just visited Murphy Models website which reads This page was last updated: March 1, 2021 and tells it all.

Noel, did you ever considered using Photoshop or similar to photocraft a replica image of the board shown in this photo?
  9. If you are planning to have points on the upper deck you will need to make allowance for any point motors that you need underneath - min 80mm for DCC Concepts motors. Higher might be necessary if boards are permanent.
  10. Would the 'other ranges to follow' include trams and perhaps some platform accessories like barrows and trolleys?
  11. That video shows 2 barrows that seem like they would be a home on many station platforms. Does anyone do a model of that or would there be a market in volumes similar to a buffer stop? Just thinking out loud.
  12. Nice one. Great shots and sounds. Happy New Year to you too.
  13. Some very nice photos out of Westland Row from 1926/27 that show the carriage shed, signal cabin and some single story buildings that were only known to exist from OSI maps. The down side is that the model of the signal cabin has to be revisited because the photos show that it needs a new ope. Another lockdown project. Hopefully IRRS have more to uploaded. Wonderful photographs and a joy to browse.
  14. Nice train sound and track sound too.
  15. Happy Christmas and best wishes for a good old normal 2021
  16. Dargan Day and Christmas 2020 The plan was to do an operational video but the light failed and the photos aren't great either. The railway is 186 years old today, so a simple posting of photos for the day that's in it.
  17. Aye, to be sure, to be sure, to be sure.
  18. Hi TimO, Patrick, David, Robert and others for your responses. The decorative girders were 3D printed for me. At Warley 2018 I met Andrew Morris of Leeds Model Railway Society who was demonstrating 3D printing and I wondered if I could buy a bag of what might be his ‘standard panels’ that made up a water tank he had on his bench. They would have been perfect for my girders project. He offered to have a look at what I was planning to do and he very generously worked with my dimensioned sketches to create the very fine detail girders I now have. My starting point was a photocrafted girder printed out and pasted to card. You can see these early efforts in the first 3 photos and the last photo combines the unfinished centre girder in card with the 3D printed girders on the outside. Most of the rest is paper (the road) and card (the footpaths and some more), photocrafted sometimes from my own photos and sometimes from Google Street View. The columns are re-engineered pens with the cap of the pen forming the base and the main part of the pen snugly fitting into it to form the column. A little over size but look well, so, don’t tell anyone. They’ll do for now. I bought the 4 Christmas trees a few years ago for €4.99 with a plan to add lights to them but something else always seems to take priority. Maybe next year. Thanks again for the comments.
  19. Three photos in the NLI collection of a film crew working at Westland Row. Film company working with spectators, Westland Row Train Station, Dublin City, Co. Dublin. Film company working on platform no. 2, distant view, Westland Row, Dublin City, Co. Dublin. Film company working on platform no.1 with spectators, Westland Row, Dublin City, Co. Dublin.
  20. Station façade Lockdown wasn't all bad. Good progress made with the station façade, the footpath and the roadway. Photos show very early modelling, some middle progress then current state. Still more to do and enjoying the journey.
  21. Thanks for the nice thought lads agus Beannachtaí na Nollag oraibh.
  22. Thanks Broithe. Líne buí is embedded in my brain and I was surprised it's no longer there. Might be something to do with this. A friend was told at a security check to 'Stand behind the yellow'. The place was packed with people and there was no yellow to be seen anywhere so he stood in line behind a lady wearing a yellow jacket. He was escorted from the line by a guard with hand on open holster. Nice notices. 8118
