  1. I got that book along with about 30 other railway books in a local library clear-out for peanuts! Not to mention some goodies in some of the books!
  2. Era.....just plank GNR over it like CIE did with GSR in this pic!!!
  3. If i ever get around to the bandon tank (by the way if you know anyone who would be willing to contract to making the kit pm me) it will be in black as is number 90. Didnt wear it for very long but i like the livery. I was looking at the 00 works model ages ago but because how early it was withdrawn i was put off......however the pre grouping livery is making me have second thaughts Picture of Kinsale station circa 1900. CBSCR white pannels are eveident
  4. Oh...... Looks lovely and its an easy fix thank god
  5. Ive only seen pictures of the 472's working on the quays, or working the clonakilty branch in the GSR days. If i got this loco i would probably get the pre grouping variant and buy maybe 2 6 wheel coaches in CBSCR maroon i belive it was. And just shoe horn it in with 1950s locos on the odd running session just to have a pre grouping loco example. GSR grey doesn't sit well with me on that model! Lets just hope no one buys it before i inevitably want to impulse buy it! Whenever i get round to actually laying the track ill PM for those timetables.
  6. CBSCR Livery does look very tempting. However it would be something id only get for the sake of getting one as i have VERY limited funds. GSR version would be more prototypical for my layout but i don't think i like it all to much. Definitely a few fictitious things deffinetly carrdiges for a start.....maybe if i focus on crossbarry the kinsale branch will be open ect. This loco would be one of those things and it is beautiful (in pre grouping livery). Despite it being completely prototypical to West Cork exclusively. I can't just "snap" one up!
  7. Thats.....better abeit the market for that loco is extraordinarily small. I might get one in the FAR future as it fits as well into my layout as a 141.
  8. Speaking of narrow guage and West Cork, Check out Schull by Mark Dunlea. Unbelivable layout and as he has access to a 3d printer (he creates shells for number 90) he was able to print one of the S&SLR tanks
  9. Weather that day was even better then it is today.....saint patrick must've known photography was of importance!
  10. Happy st patricks day everyone! The day where being irish is worth celbrating! But of course some memorable days down the years have taken place down through the years like the IRRS excursion trains. Of course 60 years since the IRRS excursion to my own West Cork https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=257493226007497&id=106687211088100
  11. Indeed......3 car sets would be the max on my layout!
  12. And as ive said, theyll make it black if you ask for it. Any specifications to the livery you like they will modify which is great. May not compare in quality to MM or IRM but there willingness to specially make orders for you and make it RTR outweighs the benifits for most. The fact they re-tooled the railcars to be more realistic and are working on fixing the sulzer tooling shows they really do care Not to mention without them there is no sulzers, AEC railcar, C Class, G class or D class RTR options for those of us who struggle with the soldering iron (Picture from excellent bantry layout on another thread showing the new re-tooled railcar. Must admit the light grey looks roof looks horrendous in this one!!!)
  13. Yep.....i ordered mine september last year and ill get it september this year.......they take a long time to make hence why i said "on order"!!!
  14. Beutiful livery on them. I have one of the new tooling ones on order in green.
  15. There isn't an awful lot of space to put things like an engine shed. Something that might fit in though are telephone poles like these ones in the picture *albeit there a bit overgrown*. They can be either home made or bought on the WWW but i always think they bring atmosphere to a layout. Maybe cows in the feild, a water tower for steam locos, signal box, level crossing, home-made fencing along the track....there deffinettly is a few things you can do with it
  16. Realistically you can take any 4 or 5 plank wagon, slap a flying snail on it and hey presto....rolling stock You can paint them (as you have) for extra points! But of course. The bullied open wagons are the best of the best
  17. 5th years go back to school on mondag I can help promote through my page, might be able to "volunteer" too
  18. Apologies......im still used to counting axels rather then wheels! the larigue engine is an 0-3-0
  19. So your suggesting a picture of the prototype in a place and then showing a picture of the model What i will say is that it would work if you showed pictured of lines that dont exist so people interested in there local history would then want one! Also i recomend making a group of people wanting to use it. Give them the login details and let various people work off the same account...but of course such a operation would have to be kept very private!
  20. On that size layout, 3 or 4 is the max size of a train i would think. Thats also why I think 3 wheelers would work well on that layout, there just the right size. If your imagination sees them as irish rolling stock, then they are simple as
  21. Its an idea, however the numbers it would gather would be minimal compared to facebook for example IRM themseves have 271 followers on instagram compared to 2.2k on facebook West Cork Railway Colourised Has 746 followers on instagram compared to 2.8k on facebook And despite the fact that instagram is run by facebook. There are huge differences between the two. One of the most annoying things about instagram for myself is that you cannot individually caption photos, one caption fits all!
  22. The attitude of myself coming into modeling is to start with anything RTR and work from there. My first irish model was the silver fox C class. From there i put silver fox railcars on order as there the 2 big RTR west cork models (unfortunately none of IRM or MM offerings ran on the west cork except for the BnT 141s which only ran in albert quay and aren't readily abailble pre owned and the A class.....which ran all but twice!) Rolling stock is usually converted dapol wagons with flying snails slapped on the side and given a lick of paint! While silver fox offer flying snail cars 75 pounds a pop is a bit expensive. I only see myself buying one for railcar use. There is an RTR brakevan on the way if course which i look at licking my lips and those 3 wheel coaches.....they look like a decent conversion. Locos that need some converting like my other young west cork modeller include a j26 out of a j72 and a beautiful GSWR no. 34 out of a LNYR 2-4-2. 3D modeling has already given is number 90, i hope more models come abailble this way as its wayyy more accesable then conversions and kits From the kits are abailble from SSM. Like the MGMR j26 and of course the bandon tank. (Which i have but haven't touched and probably wont for years.....and i made the mistake of not buying thre gearbox or wheels ect!) However none if us have nowhere near what is required yet to do brass kits, i have only soldered wires together as of now! Can I also suggest using instagram? My West Cork Railway Colourised page uses both platforms and while Facebook one is more popular, more young people tend to use instagram. A few have tried and failed....the only way it could work is if that instagram page happens to have a stream of pictures if other layouts to post consitantly! (All credited to there respected owners of course) as groups dont really work on instagram. it would have to be a page
  23. When people love a particular engine engine so much. They will want an 0 gauge one as ita the bees knees in detail and size is cool! .....and then as they have an 0 gauge engine they just start buying rolling stock and a layout just because......why not they already have a loco and hey presto....and there you have it. My theory on how 0 gauge is starting to rise
  24. To be fair 00 guage is just more practical as thats the standered gauge for modeling really. Most people on this forum that would be interested in an ICR would want it 00 gauge first and formost. Not to mention that if a kid wanted to expand his layout (say he wants a 201 class as they are also still in use in the mainline) there isint irish N gauge stuff to expand
