  4. 2x20s work the laden MGR train through Ashburton grove from the Shirebrook pit to Drax power station.
  5. An early Tuesday morning under the floodlights at Tara junction MPD sees various locomotives being prepared for service.
  6. Monday morning and 056 has charge of the Galway-Dublin Connolly mail train,seen here arriving at Tara junction.
  7. Some track laying work was completed today at Maam cross, Four track panels were installed at the Galway end approximately 1/2 mile from Maam cross station. Ballasting work was also completed as it’s a shared roadway Work was completed on the painting of the loading bank crane
  8. The year is 1989 and the trains on Tara junction are operating to the working timetable of that year…. Here we see K602 the 14:50 Marino point-Shelton abbey laden ammonia train hauled by 056 stop at Tara junction for a crew change, About an hour later the late running 17:30 Shelton abbey-Cork laden fertiliser train T201 hauled by 007 arrives at Tara junction.

  12. Thanks DJ- I also used a gauge master track rubber for the east to reach areas of the layout.
  13. A nighttime permanent way possession of Tara junction has now been implemented in order to facilitate the operation of the track cleaning coach around the hard to reach areas of the layout. The crew of locomotive 201 prepare to start the cleaning process which forms an essential part of any model railway operations.
  14. The factory siding pilot 08 is busy as it shunts some vans into position for the 37 to work onwards as the oil tank/cement train has arrived on the loop.

  16. Back in the day-locomotives would be taken off freight or permanent way trains for failure situations-as locomotives were more numerous around the network then, Rescue locomotives nowadays would come from Inchicore,Cork,Limerick,Portlaoise or Drogheda.

Friday night operating session on Tara junction we see; CIE liveried locomotive 086 work a Tralee-Dublin Heuston Cravens service, Fresh from the paint shop sporting IR white stripe livery is locomotive 080 hauling the Dublin Heuston-Ballina FO Cravens set. Locomotive 220 hauling the refurbished Mk2 set working a Galway-Dublin Heuston service. 161+132 have been a late substitute for a failed 084 hauling the Mk3 set from Waterford-Dublin Heuston.
  18. Almost 90 years apart the “past and present” photos of Maam cross station
  19. Locomotive 085 is rumoured to be the test bed locomotive.
  20. A rare sight was seen passing through Tara junction station this morning when locomotive 133 operated bonnet first while working a Guinness transfer liner to the Lakeview freight yard, The train consisted of four MX two axle wagons. (MX wagons please if possible IRM)

  23. We intend to have the site opened to the public in the next few weeks.
  24. Returning to Maam cross-the site was being made ready for its first customers, Some gravel was distributed along the goods siding platform beside coach 2421-the office building will be the next project on the to do list. Another side on ballast plough van was painted with primer along with some other under frame details. Preparations were made to install the Maam cross station name board on the up Galway platform. Finally toilet facilities were reinstated in the Mk3 sleeper coach.
  25. Two of my favourite buses are out and about this evening operating the 48a and 11 routes…..
