Well if all else fails, given the analysis Mol_PMB did investigating all the variations of the bubbles I'd say he could identify its number on sight ... from 100 yards ... on a dark night with no moon. September's Railway Modeller just popped into my email inbox. Very nice piece David - really good, and in the 900th anniversary issue no less. It's nice to have an Irish connection to the anniversary issue - especially since Cyril Fry featured so prominently in the 1st!

The Galway, Newry & Waterford?

That is a great picture - a nice shot in its own right, but it also really captures what the ITG and Downpatrick volunteers have achieved.

In addition to those listed above, a GSWR 4-4-0 like a class 52 would be one I'd like to see saved.

Where did you get you hands on the the GSWR carriage diagrams? Was that Downpatrick too?

For those of you etchers based in Ireland (Dublin specifically), how do you deal with the waste etchant? Do the local authority's' bring centres accept it? I know they take household chemicals, but ferric chloride is hardly a household chemical, is it?

OSI (Ordnance Survey Ireland) / Tailte Éireann have digital maps online. This one of Coolnamona uses the MapGenie 1996 - 2000 Base Map, and gives an aerial view from the time: https://osi.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=bc56a1cf08844a2aa2609aa92e89497e The Kilkenny line is no longer in use by that point, but you get a good overview of the buildings and the narrow gauge track. You can swap out different base maps that show the Kilkenny line, but the aerial pictures only start mid 90s

I believe the headlights were added when the A Class were re-engined with the EMD power units - so between 1968 and 1971. They wouldn't have had the headlights while in the silver or green liveries.

To be fair, I don't think the current (and likely future volume) of passenger traffic at Waterford will be a significant hinderance to freight flows

Nice to see the 'work in progress' getting it's display - not only does it remind you of your to-do list, it shows off the work that has been already done!!

It has happened: an example is the Dicky Taras - although it was a biggish batch of seconds and you're probably asking after individual models with defects??

Regardless - the statement used in the title was wrong when they wrote and published the book. It did make for a more catchy title though ...
