  1. Photo of the Dingham coupler flipping to the uncouple position when the track magnet is energized From Dingham website here http://www.dingham.co.uk/how_it_works4.htm
  2. I often wondered what they were for and need to file that away because I'll never find you post in this thread when I forget again. Thanks!
  3. I know it's hard to standardize the lighting or control the weather, Noel, but the photos cannot be fairly compared with the first in shade and the face of the second loco in 'bright' sunshine from the top right of the photo. These could easily be the same shade of yellow given the very obvious dissimilarity in the grey shades alone. Didn't even know there were different shades of yellow on the front of the grey 071s but hard to appreciate that from these shots, although latter definitely lighter
  4. THanks for that, Tom. Never even noticed so maybe with Noel on this one. Lovely model, may take a wire cutters to the handles;) Incidentally, why were they removed? H&S wouldn't allow anyone to climb higher than three feet hence no longer required?
  5. Can you explain which grab irons should not be there? They are a little more expensive and I suspect probably approaching a price that not every modeler will pay for unless its your modeling era...
  6. No, she's a little beauty alright. Actually I got 7071 only because I got 0078 the other day (as if that made any sense, but anyway…). I know you love the baby GMs but I was running my new 0078 the other night and she a lovely runner too, comparable I would say and I have not got her on DCC yet! I probably wouldn't buy a 141 right now (only because I finally completed my collection with the final recent acquisition of 187) but I say that and I'm pretty sure that I actually would. I have most of the 071s (on the way) now after the Marks sale and may give the pocketbook a rest for a while. No 201s but a single LIMA River Flesk (which I purchased for sentimental reasons). When I ran her it immediately reminded me of the sound of old ringfield motors in train sets as a child and reminded me how far these models have come mechanically. I daren't bring up aesthetics here
  7. Ha! So much for CIE B'n'T.......... (but actually I bought her too and she's on the way)
  8. Certainly raises some security concerns also. I noticed on other threads that several episodes of arson or vandalism allegedly occurred in the Dublin main stations in particular over the years. Obviously this poor man was not a threat but the fact that he was left there certainly demonstrates a potentially severe deficiency in securing the safety of both passengers and equipment.
  9. Amtrak's Northeastern Regional train derailed on Tuesday evening killing 8 and injuring about 200 people. The electric train was doing 102mph on a curve with a speed restriction of 50mph and 80 mph on the approach and accelerated from 70mph to 106mph in the minute prior to derailment, being braked back to 102mph just before impact according to the trains data recorders. The driver survived with a relatively minor head injury and has retrograde amnesia and doesn't recall the events just prior to the accident. To complicate matters further, Amtrak was supposed to install a train control system, to limit speeds similar to a CAWS system on IR (feel free to contribute/correct the information if that is incorrect from a technical standpoint).
  10. Thanks folks. I may renumber one or two 'extra' 141/181 that I have so wondering if there were any numbers to 'avoid'
  11. Even civilian ATC centers have primary surveillance radars for target bearing and range/altitude. This should be visible even if a non-secondary surveillance radar equiped/responding aircraft fails to provide its squawk ident /pressure altitude info. I just thought it was funny the way that the press reported that the Russian aircraft was not squawking for all to see.
  12. Was 075 destroyed in the Buttevant crash? Actually, what's the best resource to look up when locos and wagons were introduced, scrapped/involved in a significant accident etc?
  13. "The worry is when these Russian bombers come, there's no signal - they don't have their transponder, they are not 'squawking' - so in other words, only military radar pick them up." Isn't a radar a radar, you just have no seconadary ident on the signal....maybe they'll turn on their transponders at some point
  14. 078 arrived yesterday. "That's lovely, honey"...........so I guess I'm luckier than most
  15. We had an operational P51 from the flight museam crash into the Gulf last year with pilot and passenger both lost..... stick with the A320. Actually these are real aircraft but their abilities are rarely seen except maybe on testing or an occasional airshow. Not sure if the the A320 can 'loop the loop' but Concorde certainly could
  16. It's a nice livery, represents Ireland well, although I think they needed to do something with the 'snooty nose' on the livery. I think the retro livery fits the A320 very well. It's a superb aircraft. Comparing it to the 22k is a little like comparing the superbly engineered 141 class to the old Lima 201s. This little baby is the original 5-pole double flywheel all wheel pickup version of FBW aircraft!
  17. What do you mean? I don't understand So should we be happy that he's supporting MM advancing to the next model (potentially) or unhappy that much stock has been sequestered into a private collection?
  18. Great collection. One of the mods would be able to shed some light on that, I'm sure

  21. Presumably the chip in the card went rogue …….. he-he
  22. Many posts on the site and Jim's post of the TGV really do confirm that the problem is the infrastructure;)
  23. Shame, there are not many in use form the original 34 or so are there?
  24. So, R. Bandon is out of action not being overhauled. Guess there would be little point with many of the 201s stored right now?
