    DCC Decoders

Hi Dave, Any 6-function suitable for 071 class? They don't have an integral capacitor for Stay Alive but that is an optional extra is what I understood from your post? Have they actually been tested with ABC modules (the Loksound seemingly misbehaves with this although that is also NMRA compliant) I presume it is one of these? http://laisdcc.com/decoders/ Thanks
  2. That's amazing, Bren! Not sure how you manage of all of that!
  3. I suppose they are producing for a niche market and the price is not cheap (in absolute terms) although as Mayner states it's probably good value provided the performance of the product can approximate the running qualities expected of modern models. I'm a little surprised (and a little concerned having placed my order) to hear that the product ran so badly overall. It would be reasonable to expect that a hand made model would have been checked and tested over some track work that at least the majority of modelers would use and should run well. More importantly, I'm wondering about the responses of the manufacturer in offering 'after sales' support for your product that is essentially defective/not fit for purpose when delivered. I do not possess your modeling skill not do I have the support of a local club, and since the company does not accept electronic forms of payment, redress in a situation such as yours might prove difficult after some real distance buying (I'm in the US). I had asked OOworks if they could add a little more weight so that it might provide an improved tractive effort on a gradient. Apparently it is difficult to do due to space constraints within, but I guess I can add 10g at least! I had considered ordering the UG class also but I'll hold off for now until I see my own U class running well. Is the problem that the wheels on the loco or tender are not electrically isolated from each other, hence separate tender and loco pickup for opposite polarities rather than all wheel pickup? A Stay Alive decoder should certainly help
  4. Well, my order during the week was 382! Whether it's batch three, No. 82 or whether they're sequentially numbered it's become very popular. Won't have her until maybe November but still in time for Christmas and there will be lots of recommendations on the site for decoders etc. by then
  5. That's a great tip. A ten-fold reduction in cost is definitely worth doing and makes equipping a couple of rakes affordable for the average modeler. DO you thin it is possible to route the wiring between the window, drill a tiny hole in the floor and hide the battery behind the 'battery boxes' under the chassis. Battery replacement would be infinitely easier
  6. That's a shame, John. Admire your ability to find a fix to the problem. Hope she works out!
  7. No Kieran, I just ordered one! However, Rebekah told me there is little additional room in the boiler or firebox to add any additional weight or a speaker for a sound decoder if anyone is interested in that. The tender might be an option but has some cross members on the resin which might need to be removed to accommodate one
  8. Have to agree. I really enjoyed the CADs with the various parts picked out in different colours. Really allowed me to gain an appreciation for the various parts including air pipes, hopper doors, and braking system which I would otherwise have glossed over. These really look well. I have to agree this is a very important point. Not just for the relatively few presently modelling to the correct gauge but if a decent rtr track (and points) were to become available, I'd be tempted to convert a lot of stock.
  9. Eoin and IT, thanks for all of that which has ben immensely helpful
  10. Agreed. I looks very well indeed. Leslie, this looks better than I expected to be honest. Forget the video but an honest critique on the running qualities if you have a DC circuit would be appreciated. I think I'm gonna get one of these babies.
  11. Nice job, Kieran! Looks well!
  12. You'll see I commented on the brake in that photo and I have one of your vans and a nice one it is too! A couple of photos would be great in good light or daylight but heres some more of 49 while we're waiting on 205
  13. Next up from OOworks the UG class seen here
  14. ok, understood, David. Thank you for that. But no Class 20 is available as I understand it, so I'm stuck with it. Engine sound only I guess for the Hunslet. Thanks all for your comments and for taking this off thread a little. Back to 121s, no word on the MM website yet, been watching for the commemorative item and the any word on the grey & yellow to appear
  15. I think that is what I want to do, change the whistles which are the problem. The engine sounds great and if I can leave the engine sound in there I'd be happy. I may want to fiddle with CV for momentum etc but that's another issue.
  16. Me too. A little video if you can mange it please
  17. Does this just give you greater access to customize the sound chips and does it make equipping ones fleet with sound any cheaper? Incidentally, without getting too far off tread, I have a Bachmann Class 20 with a Loksound 4.0 which has an excellent sound for the Hunslet motor but I need some horns other than the BR ones. If anyone can suggest suitable files, I'm happy to get a Lokprogrammer. Thanks
  18. Look online or on YouTube. Some good videos on basic how to do it techniques.
  19. Some personal communications from forum members suggested that they can be tricky to get running properly. I suspect the slightest torque over the length of this chassis or imprecise bending would cause issues with smooth running. Getting a short rake made by a forum member first before attempting to match that myself. Looks very well, nice kit.
  20. You're not wrong. Sorry, I could't find a big tongue in cheek emoticon when I said that, Jonathan. These are just 'petty' crimes that have a low priority due to resources or whatever and many modalities of antisocial behaviour seem to be 'accepted/acceptable' to law enforcement and our modern society.
  21. Thanks, Eamonn. Much appreciated. Many thanks, NIR. Will look forward to that whenever possible.
  22. Property damage by defacement or arson is not really considered a crime.
  23. Noel, who does those Zimo project? I think Mr. Soundguy does the Loksound but there have been some issues using the Loksound 4.0 decoder with ABC signaling. I'm glad I became aware of it before investing
  24. This may help and you could glue or solder depending on skill level http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/3701-SSM-42-Flat-Assembly-Guide
  25. I'm on the fence but very tempted. Worst case, I can stick some GN wagons from a certain niche manufacturer behind her! Maybe a little review if you have time when you get her might help persuade the pocket book(speaking of which I don't have one that shells out in GBP anymore... difficult that they won't take plastic)
