Could 216 Be Repainted?

It would be great to see at least one carrying it's original IE livery.

Here's a couple of shots I got of 216, back in April. To be honest, it could do with a lick of paint. I've never liked that colour.

Lovely photos.

Wasn't she out and about in a light green primer prior to the deep blue?

She was. A little weird looking too, if I remember correctly.

Correct Dave-the locomotive had been virtually rebuilt and it was being trialled on the liner trains for mileage accumulations,

A few days after I took the photo it entered the paint shop at Inchicore for repainting into the Belmond blue livery,

It is scheduled to be repainted this year I’m told…….

Does anyone think, giving the 201s will be 30 years old this year, does anyone think 216 will be repainted possibly into the Enterprise, Badger/Zebra/Raccoon or even the original Irish Rail livery?

CIE 1950s lined green!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Or black'n'tan.

I reckon that they could have worked that green into quite a nice livery, with a few changes.

So, freight grey would be tops, A46 lined green would be nice, black and tan would merit consideration, but with the full yellow faces it'd be hard to tell the delivery livery from the subsequent one.

I can’t imagine it being removed until there is less requirement for 201’s to cover the Enterprise, which going by information won’t happen until 2028/29 at the earliest.

I have heard from a few reliable sources what 216 will be churned out in next. Although I will miss the blue. It was a super livery

all I’m saying is. In 2024 the 201s will be 30 years old 👀

It looks like 216 has been getting around. It was on Mk4 duties the week before Christmas looking badly in need of a wash!

Now the debate starts; what colour will it be repainted?

(Runs for the door.....)

Keep it in blue but add an IWT logo and orange cheat line.. 15 years of IWT Dublin-Ballina this August and it will help her blend in

Fairly sure at least one stored 201 is in Raccoon, but I could be wrong as I think all stored 201s were primarily used on freight.

Nope, the stored locos are 201-205 and 210-214 all in orange with full yellow ends, 224 in intercity and 230 in enterprise
