If you mean software then photoshop if you want to buy it or paint dot net for free is also brilliant.

If you mean base then if you have a careful look through this forum or the Irish Rail FOI requests you can find technical drawings for the entire fleet in terms of liveries. Then you will have the shape with the proper proportions for the loco/stock you want.

If you want to get into editing photos then there is plenty of youtube tutorials on editing photographs , some of the guys who do the wacky car photo edits would be of help like this.

What is the Irish Rail FOI address?

FOI is Freedom of Information. In Ireland, the FOI Act provides the public with:

  • the right to access official records held by Government Departments or other public bodies as defined by the act.
  • the right to have personal information held on them corrected or updated where such information is incomplete, incorrect or misleading.
  • the right to be given reasons for decisions taken by public bodies that affect them.

A quick search on Google for "Irish Rail FOI address" threw up this: https://www.irishrail.ie/en-ie/about-us/company-information/freedom-of-information/request-records. There's a subsection for FOI requests on the fleet. It's quite the treasure trove actually - thanks @knawa and good luck with your project @IrishTrainScenes!

I’m following this with interest!

Will we see an 800 class in GNR blue, or a De Dietrich set in CBSCR olive green?

A Lough Swilly 4.8.0 in Donegal red? (Airfixfan, what ye think?)

Lined CIE green on NCC Jeeps?

NIR Red Bull livery on Cork 26’s or Drogheda 29s? CIE Black’n’tan on an NIR “wokfru” 4K set?

The sky’s the limit….

A 22000 in Arrow livery?

This will be interesting to watch

I’ll always recomend this thread which has not quite those things, but pretty close

(I think if you click on the image it brings to northern blue 109s flickr with some fun and some serious “what ifs” in Ireland and beyond)

I tried contacting him once but no reply…..  was going to ask him to do No. 90 in each of the actual liveries it carried, to assist the DCDR in choosing its eventual livery at the time when it was being restored for use there.

He didn’t answer, but DCDR ended up finishing 90 in the livery it would have had when new.

Quick bump for this thread as @Mol_PMB has some nice fictional A Class liveries posted here.

I'm a couple of weeks late for an April Fool, but I quite like these impressions of what a British Rail Metrovick Co-Co might have looked like:

I reckon BR blue without the full yellow face would look nice.

Thanks DJD! I hadn't realised this thread existed but it is very appropriate.

Somewhere I've seen a (EMD) 201 class in EWS livery - I think it was a model. Can't find the pic now though...

NorthernBlue has done loads, and several have been posted in different threads over the years.

A good few years back, somebody shared pics of their 141 in engineer’s silver and black livery, but I can’t remember who.

Somebody, possibly @Davenport, but I’m not sure, posted pics of something like a Class 67 in IE freight grey.

In the Inchicore anniversary thread, there’s a pic of a 201 in IE freight grey, too.

It was Ballykay where there were photos of the silver and black 141 and freight grey 201, I think, but the photos were lost when Photobucket wiped everything.

This NorthernBlue 071 was posted in the same thread:

Northern Ireland Railways: 111 Class Locomotive 'Northern Counties' (fiction)

I made a livery edit for a 2900 with Arrow colours a while ago, it should fit this thread:

How did you do that?

Tbh, the 29s suit the arrow livery

Gonna do some liveries. Any requests?

ICR in early 1950s fully lined CIE dark green, plus ICR or DART in 1960s black'n'tan!

De Deitrich Enterprise in black'n'tan!

How about an IRM Park Royal model, redone in ‘Brilliant Green’ on sides, ends and roof?
Brilliant Green colour in this post:

I think the early Park Royals may have been that colour originally.

Another interesting one would be to start with this railcar photo:

dse Arklow_2603_1963

and replace the black band around the windows with this shade of dark olive known as ‘steel furniture green’:

This was the original plan for the BnT livery.
