amdaley Posted June 8 Author Posted June 8 (edited) Some granite sets put down. Just waiting for some more sheets for the station area. Edited June 8 by amdaley 16
Mol_PMB Posted June 8 Posted June 8 That looks very neat! It's nice to see a goods yard with plenty of space for the road vehicles to manoeuvre - it's very easy for us railway modellers to cram the space unrealistically full of track. 2 4

Believe me the temptation was there We've all been guilty of that. 5 1

When planning Dugort Harbour, I adopted the approach of "less is more", as I wanted it to look realistic scenically overall. It seems to work that way, and yet it certainly provides more than adequate operational potential and interest. Arguably, operation of a terminus-type layout offers much greater shunting challenges the less track there is - just like real life. 3 1
amdaley Posted June 14 Author Posted June 14 (edited) All cobbles are done now. The rest of the yard between the yard cobbles & the station area will probably just be dirt / gravel ? I need to get a few buildings like coal merchants for the yard to utilise that long siding. I haven't decided yet ? Edited June 14 by amdaley 8
west_clare_wanderer Posted June 14 Posted June 14 That cobbled area is looking fantastic. I really like those low relief buildings too. Inspiring stuff! 4 1
amdaley Posted June 17 Author Posted June 17 Facia has been fitted. Facia & shelf have been painted. Finishes off the front of the layout I think. A few buildings needed for the yard next. 10
amdaley Posted June 19 Author Posted June 19 A railwayman's canteen & store made from an old Triang Clerestory LNER coach that i had lying around I replaced the roof with one in card & covered with tissue paper & then coated in black acrylic paint. The body is just painted in dirty brown colour. 5

amdaley Posted June 23 Author Posted June 23 The yard now has a new coal merchant although he's yet to get a delivery The position isn't fixed as I'm still moving things around. Next up is a canopy for the station platform. 9
amdaley Posted June 28 Author Posted June 28 The station platform now has a canopy & the engine shed has a small coaling stage. Both are from Ratio kits which anyone who has made one will testify that they can be hit or miss. The coaling stage is a modern version which I only got this week but the platform canopy is much older as I've had it in stock for a number of years. The instructions for the canopy were a bit confusing so it ended up as a make it up as you go along kit. The coaling stage had a good diagram of the parts & was much more enjoyable to make up. They've both been painted but will need a little weathering. I now need to see where I need to install Kadee magnets & after that ballasting (maybe) 8
amdaley Posted July 3 Author Posted July 3 (edited) We now have a couple of cranes in the yard. Fiddly to make up but worth the effort I think. I have a list a mile long of things to do but that's what it's all about. Edited July 3 by amdaley 11
John-r Posted July 3 Posted July 3 Really enjoy following the progress of your layout, I'd say those cranes were fiddly alright, but you nailed them, class looking. 1
amdaley Posted Wednesday at 15:45 Author Posted Wednesday at 15:45 Nothing much happening at the moment. Much too hot for modelling up there even with the room well insulated. It is part of the loft after all. Humidity is very high down here & there's no wind at all I did paint up & install a few buffer stops & a couple of loading gauges. I also did some maintenance work in the fiddle yard. I had a small point installed on a curve with a head shunt off it. This was causing a problem for one particular loco so I ripped it out & replaced it with a curve point. Much better now. 12
