BosKonay Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Couple of quick snaps with some overviews / progress. I'll start a new thread for the ballasting methods I'm now using... Am also uploading a quick video of 071 shunting Tara Mines wagons in the station....
Sulzer201 Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Steven it looks brilliant there. Great to see Thomas getting a run on the cement bogies. Love the maintenance shed and the modern prefab offices. The prize item for me has to be that weathered 141/181 - it is fantastic and adds hugely to the overall realism of this excellent layout. Tommy.
Sulzer201 Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Ah yes the sound really finishes them off as a top class model.
Glenderg Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Was there an incident at 3:27 that we weren't supposed to see?
RedRich Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 I love the video Stephen. The light but subtle weathering on 071 looks spot on, especially around the fuel tank. The reversing movement through the points shows how well the track is layed. The lights in the Craven look cool and I love the Dutch Van. Last but not least the sound is spot on. Rich,
BosKonay Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Was there an incident at 3:27 that we weren't supposed to see? Cough Indeed, there is a point in that formation where i think the chairs melted a little when soldering. The result is that the frog check rail is a half mil out of alignment, will have to fix
201bhoy Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 The photos are excellent. The video is STUNNING.
Admin Posted December 14, 2012 Author Posted December 14, 2012 @enterprise207 - See Glenderg above in this thread - he's the man @201bhoy - Cheers Need to fix that check rail tho The reverse shunt was a bit messier :)
jhb171achill Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Excellent stuff - the filthy and vandalised 141 looks SO realistic! (Sad to have to say!) .. I'd check the house from top to bottom for that grifter character..... :-)
enniscorthyman Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 The Tara's look great and the sound really tops it off. The new zimo chips are fantastic and the plug and play aspect of the 071 chip is spot on. Great layout Stephen, keep up the good work.
BosKonay Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 Was just watching that! I am experimenting with ikea light strips too
BosKonay Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 Reverse shunt point 'corrected' Nothing some superglue and brute force couldn't fix
Guest hidden-agenda Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 Really shaping up and i love the sound it brings the loco to life. What next? a helix to get down stairs and run in to the living room with a couple of sidings in the kitchen and a branch to the back garden.
BosKonay Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 Once the loop and branches are done, the plan is a hidden helix down 6-7 inches with a 8x20 foot road fiddle through to a dart suburban station in a cutting but that's next year
Broithe Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 Once the loop and branches are done, the plan is a hidden helix down 6-7 inches with a 8x20 foot road fiddle through to a dart suburban station in a cutting but that's next year Next year's only a fortnight away....
RedRich Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 Reverse shunt point 'corrected' Nothing some superglue and brute force couldn't fix Good work Stephen I didn't cop it in the first video. The kids were Killing each other. I was acting as peace keeper. I think I'll apply for a job in the UN. Rich,
BosKonay Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 I'm sure there will be lots of tweaks and tunes as I go alright All part of the fun Got no time at all over the weekend, so hoping for a run of a few hours this week to get the mainline over to the viaduct at least
Dave Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 I'm looking forward to seeing a nice rake going over the the viaduct
BosKonay Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Had a quick collection today from Casa del Glenderg (Happy Birthday Sir!!!! ) and will be posing some shots tomorrow with some new civil engineering masterpieces!
Dave Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Oooh sounds tasty, looking forward to seeing them
BosKonay Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Will reveal all hopefully tomorrow in between ballasting and track laying
BosKonay Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 First up, the 'Battery House' has been restored / conserved and (once a foundation is laid) will see new life as a shunters / DMU drivers mess
BosKonay Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 The Billboard and tower at the end of platform 5 are in place
BosKonay Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 And the old LMS tower is in place, pending completion of the hardstanding in this area!
BosKonay Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Otherwise, I've laid 8 feet of mainline, and installed the two points and a slip just before the curve to the left heading for the viaduct. At this rate, I should have track crossing the viaduct by tomorrow (and then another day to build the mainline bus to power it!)
BosKonay Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 I also have the Restoration Depot shed I'll get some snaps of it shortly!
Garfield Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Looking good! I actually got a sneak peak of the battery house in Glenderg's bag of tricks at the Raheny show, and I can confirm that it looks even better in the flesh. In fact, I was with him when we found out it was actually called the 'battery house'!
BosKonay Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Yep, gotta love the story around it I can almost smell the sulphur meself
BabyGM Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Great work, I can't wait to see a De Dietrich set cross the viaduct
Garfield Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Yep, gotta love the story around it I can almost smell the sulphur meself That'll be the drivers brewing some seriously strong tay!
