Garfield Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 RPSI volunteers have steamed 131's boiler for the first time since 1963. Photos on the society's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.779882512077140.1073741844.715053831893342&type=1
StevieB Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Despite the 51 years since she lasted steamed, her boiler must have been in good nick! Congratulations. Stephen

Lough Erne Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Comparatively speaking very little major surgery was undertaken i.e. no inner firebox replacement or extensive outer firebox work, though it did get a new smokebox and smokebox tube plate bottom half. However it did get several dozen side stays, all new crown stays and of course a retube and a few other odds and ends but nothing compared to 461, 4 or 85s major firebox rebuilds.
heirflick Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 excellent news! really looking forward to see her on the rails! fair play to the RPSI=D
Weshty Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 That is just fantastic. I never thought that when I was doing my bit for her back in Mallow with the GSRPS in '84 that it would be another 30 years before things started moving!
Lough Erne Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 It may be of interest to note that today 131 steamed and moved under her own power successfully for the first time since mid 1962.
WRENNEIRE Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Des Thats probably why it took 30 odd years to get her mended !!!

jhb171achill Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Excellent. I was in shorts when it last left traffic.....
DiveController Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 fair play to the RPSI! will be fantastic to have another addition to the fleet, epically now that 186 is retired. happy days:dancing: 186 is now finally retired to display?
jhb171achill Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Until the next time, Dive! Remember 85 was permanently retired about ten years ago...... 186 is actually in good enough order; it's just that it's of less use than the others.
leslie10646 Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Until the next time, Dive! Remember 85 was permanently retired about ten years ago...... 186 is actually in good enough order; it's just that it's of less use than the others. The problem is that the RPSI needs locos which can pull 7/8 coaches at 60mph (70mph would be better!) to keep out of the way of Mal's CAFS and your Korean things down South - so if she steams again, it'll more likely be on John's Little Railway - aka Downpatrick - or on our site? By a stroke of luck, I travelled behind her sister, No.132, in the 1960s so No.131 will be a new engine for me! It has been a terrific job by Peter Scott and his trusty henchmen at Whitehead. Leslie
