Warbonnet Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Great info as always snapper. Will we see 131 south of Heuston this year? Quote
Railer Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Really looking forward to this on Saturday myself. Can't wait to sit back and chill with a pint of the black stuff while being hauled around listening to 071s for 12 hours. Even managed to convince herself to come along for this one too. Her only question: Is there a bar coach on this? Me: Yes. Her: Grand so. 2 Quote

I'm in the same boat as you Railer. The other half wanted to come along to see what all this fuss about trains is.Went a little like this.... Her: I wont be bored will i ? Me: Not if like 071 class locomotives and don't mind sitting in a Craven all day. Her: What are they ? Me : Bring a word search you'll be grand. Like you I'm really looking forward to this, last one was the Marble Tribesman last year and it was a great day out. 1 Quote
Railer Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 Was hoping for 071 or 073 for tomorrows run, but alas. Looks like 076 will be hauling from Connolly to Waterford, where a now cleaned up 085 will take over for the run to Limerick. Dunno what's on the home run yet. Never been on a train hauled by 76 or 85 before so all good anyway. Quote

Railer Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 (edited) Probably last time to get 086 in the freight livery on a tour too, she's in a bad way externally. I reckon she is next in line for overhaul. Edited April 6, 2018 by Railer Quote
leslie10646 Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 Great info as always snapper. Will we see 131 south of Heuston this year? Never mind Heuston - it would be nice to see her go to Greystones and back - my only Q Class run was to there in the early 1960s, with sister 132. 131 will be my second Q Class "for haulage" in May, (DV). One friend has already notched up 200 miles with her! Happy Days! Quote
snapper Posted April 6, 2018 Author Posted April 6, 2018 I seems 076 is being a naughty engine so will replaced tomorrow by 071 1 Quote
Noel Posted April 7, 2018 Posted April 7, 2018 Just heard its rather cold on board - there's no heating. Boiler issue on 3173 apparently. Unfortunately I couldn't make this interesting trip. Quote
Railer Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Great trip, it was bit cold on the train up to Waterford but after it was grand. Great weather from Limerick Junction onwards. Great day. We got 074 at Waterford instead of 085, 085 was coupled to the CPWs. 086 put on a fantastic show from Turles back to Connolly and made up a good bit of time. The RPSI gave advance warning of the boiler certificate issue in fairness. Quote

Broithe Posted August 6, 2018 Posted August 6, 2018 There seems to have been a failure at Greystones..? Quote
Railer Posted August 6, 2018 Posted August 6, 2018 Yeah there was. 087 had to be sent from Connolly to haul the train back. I believe it got to Connolly just before midnight. These things happen, credit to all the volunteers and IE staff in fairness. Hope the RPSI don't get too much of a slap on the wrist for the delayed Rosslare service. Quote
Gortalainn Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 15 hours ago, Broithe said: There seems to have been a failure at Greystones..? Yeah, the staff told us that the boiler pressure dropped too low because the fire died. They also couldn't get 85 into gear, which delayed us further. 087 then came to rescue us, as Railer said. I'd say the RPSI will get quite a hard time from IE though, I think there was about 4 or 5 services severely delayed because of us! 1 Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 I wouldn't say the RPSI would get told off too much, after all the driver and fireman are IE employees afterall? Quote
snapper Posted August 8, 2018 Author Posted August 8, 2018 85 was held on the approach to Greystones to allow a down dart to arrive into the station and then proceed into the siding, the down Rosslare was sitting on the other platform, after getting the all clear the crew were unable to get the train moving (the cause is under investigation). While awaiting the arrival of a rescue loco from Connolly another dart arrived into Greystones, this second dart then failed on the platform in Greystones with a brake issue. The down Rosslare that had been sitting in Greystones was then sent back to Bray to allow the rescue loco to get through and rescue the RPSI train. While that was happening the RPSI crew managed to get the train moving and brought it into the now empty platform. The failed dart was repaired and the departed for Bray. The up Rosslare then arrived, as did 087. The up Rosslare departed, followed by the DART in the sidings, then down Rosslare then passed through (having previously been sent back to Bray) and then we departed for Connolly. Arrival back into Connolly at 23.35 2 Quote
