leslie10646 Posted February 21 Author Posted February 21 Ah, found the Lance photo. I've zoomed in to show Platform 4's building. 3 Quote
Galteemore Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Very nice work indeed Leslie. Should be very proud of that 1 Quote
Mol_PMB Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Nice! and we can see the water tower too. The window under the tower looked odd on your model but it's actually spot on compared to the prototype photo. Excellent work! 1 Quote
Mol_PMB Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Just out of interest, have you looked at the BritainfromAbove aerial photos? There are several of Portadown that may be useful for your purposes. Quote
Patrick Davey Posted February 21 Posted February 21 That's looking mighty fine Leslie, great work sir - looking forward to watching further progress. Quote
leslie10646 Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 The morning after the night before: The last section of canopy has set and sits OK, so I've now put the whole of Platform 4 together (precariously) to see how it looks! It goes on for a bit (180cms or so) as you can see and even with TEN canopy sections, it only gets to here! IMG_1381.MOV So do I "Spoil the Ship for a Hap'worth of tar" or leave it at that? The next picture shows what ANOTHER two sections would stretch to! In reality, the canopies covered most of the platforms. I'm erring on the "spoil the ship" as no-one will see the other end of the platform with any ease, it's lost in the roof beams! It's the water tower end which is most visible! Thoughts on a postcard, please ....... 3 3 Quote
Mol_PMB Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Impressive! I once knew someone with a loft layout who cut a big notch in a roof beam purely to provide adequate sighting of a home signal. And that notch was not necessary to see the signal from the operating position, but from the point of view of the imaginary driver in the cab of the model loco approaching it. I'm sure your model passengers will put up without a canopy at the far end of the platform though - hopefully it won't be raining inside the loft... 2 Quote
Patrick Davey Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Leslie that is magnificent, looking forward to seeing it all in place!! Do you have any wagons to run on the layout? 4 Quote
Irishswissernie Posted February 27 Posted February 27 I have an arial view from the 1920's on the Archive which is probably a bit early. 3 1 Quote
Portadown Posted February 27 Posted February 27 I'd love to know what that building apparently on stilts is that is attached to the main building on platform 4! 3 hours ago, leslie10646 said: The morning after the night before: The last section of canopy has set and sits OK, so I've now put the whole of Platform 4 together (precariously) to see how it looks! leslie10646 Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 Now you send me this - back to the drawing board! Oh well, it was good practice! Too show you that it doesn't matter if something is not quite right! From the middle of the loft: Or from where I sit operating! Now the 2.45pm semi-fast from Dublin arrives. 2.45 from Dublin.mov And for a bit of fun, what a non-stop looks like from the centre of the attic while doing a dining car crockery breaking whirl through the loop! IMG_1393.MOV Off now to remake it all as it's even more fictional than I thought! 10 Quote
Patrick Davey Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Leslie can you not get rid of all those rafters???? (joking!) 1 2 Quote

Looks great Leslie Yes, William, I was puzzled by that too. Before I saw that it was on stilts, I thought it was where the subway came up. I know from photos at platform level that the steps came up to an entrance through an arch onto the platform - but WHERE? Was it under that water tower building at the South end? Thanks, Ernie, for more evidence than I'd managed to glean before. William modelled the elevated nature of the station very well on his version. It wasn't practical for me. 2 Quote
