  1. Looks like a nice installation there Whizz, I filed the holes out in the bogie side frames. Not sure it was worth the effort when all is painted black and then weathered to 60's filth style. I must become competent at fitting decoders, maybe its my next lockdown challenge! But I have a man near me who is so good at it! Fitting Kaydee no5's on locos and rolling stock I find a bit of a problem 'cos the standard no5 mounting arm is not long enough to put the coupler head in line with the buffer faces. I have quite a few packs of std no5's. hey ho!
  2. Thank you for putting all the time and effort into this project John. As an older person! the price point you talk of is at my upper limit, its the fixed income thing and my body is getting toooo old to generate much outside interest! To take numbers of sales and I have no real idea what 00works predict to sell but the way all their Irish locos have flown off the shelves must indicate a strong , for its small size, market. Good luck with the project I hope it succeeds and as we spoke of before, the Cattle Engine does it for me.
  3. Hi Westcorkrailway, all the posts above will be helpful to you in one way or another and you have a good handle on what is available. Books, models or online information. We got into the CB&SCR almost by accident! A group of us in our local club were asked for suggestions for a new layout, I opened Ernie Shepherds book and bingo!! Bantry was born. John (Bantree) has done all the buildings and most of the scenic work, plus he owns the Silver Fox AEC unit , I have done the the other goods and passenger stock and the locos. The SSM Bandon tank is not a difficult kit to make up, it just needs time and some beforehand idea of how a loco works and fits together and of course being able to solder!! But most of all a belief in yourself that you can do it. The first step is the hardest the second is so much easier! And the guys on this group are so helpful, they will even let you be a bit of an idjut for a while but always point you in the right direction. To go back to soldering, its not a black art, there is no mystery to it, it is a skill that once you learn the basics will so enhance your modelling. Just to tell you when I built the Bandon tank I had not built a kit for 40years and I am so pleased with it. Look at the Lock down locos thread my C class is there.. Please keep posting ,ask questions you will get the right path. I look forward to seeing your progress and pm me if you feel the need. Mick
  4. Noel, I wondered who would be first with the weathering! Are you using powders or light washes plus dry brushing? it would be so easy to just kill that livery.
  5. Much of New Irish Lines has been digitised with free access last time I looked.
  6. That is a very handsome train. And 762, what a beautifully proportioned engine on 2ft gauge.
  7. I bought a similar one over here on the big island 10/12yrs ago for similar price + from Machine Mart. Also got quick change fittings and airbrush adapter. Bit noisy no midnight spraying! it will outlast me! that Aldi machine looks like a good buy
  8. Ernie, I think you are doing a fabulous job of putting all these collections on line for us to enjoy. Thank you and long may you keep it up.
  9. My 134 in grey arrived yesterday lovely model well impressed, the detail all round is fantastic from the detailed cab to the grilles in the bonnet. Thank you Mr Murphy .My only gripe mine is missing the front handrails , the ones by the steps so I'm now into the emailing bit . I do hope MM comes up trumps. Not Donald though!
  10. I watched the interview of John Hemingway last night. What a modest man, a man I should love to meet and talk with, those men are heros. My wifes uncle was a Captain in MTB's he would talk about his experiences just occasionally . What struck me was the heady mix of very fast wooden boat, two huge petrol powered engines, a large amount of petrol fuel and torpedo's! Captain Jim was very casual about the whole thing! Health and Safety????
  11. That GN cement wagon just about sums up what I like about Irish railways. Use what you have got to make a low cost vehicle, make do and mend, keep things going. It maybe does not look good to the public but it makes our hobby interesting.
  12. Oh! Jhb you are so right and definately a good thing for a shunting layout the temptations are growing, not helped by that Georgeconna posting pictures. Thats a terrible thing to do!
  13. I'm sort of tempted but I thought they were scrapped before the 2nd world war. So I may pass on that loco. And its a chunk of money for a small tank engine even if its beautifully built.
  14. Thanks for posting, I would not have recognised the place! I used to pass through on Halls ,Black fives etc; even went up the branch to Adderbury and Bloxham where I lived!
  15. In honesty Galteemore & KMCE have said it all. I can only add "proper job".
  16. John, I would like a first series heating/luggage van. Mick
  17. My wife and I went to the West Clare in 2012 and I was surprised the locos were in a not very secure compound and not all of them well sheeted from the elements. I hope things have changed for the better there.
  18. Brilliant Photos to cloudy in Lincolnshire.
  19. What beautiful script those reports are written in. I started to be taught that style in primary school but in came italic so my hand writing looks like neither! I do enjoy these snippets of railway history. And how learned this group is.

Hey!, JHB you saw I filthied up a green A class. I very nearly sprayed it silver, maybe I should have , but I like the green.
  21. Good photos there JHB thanks for posting, hope you had your hiviz vest on!
  22. The bogie ferts in his shop look OK item No;283938069265
  23. Looking good Whizz, a production line! I find its quite hard to stay interested when building on production line status but when you finish wow! instant freight train!
  24. Noel, the A & Sulzer are on Hornby Deltic chassis the C is on a Hornby Electro-Diesel cls 73 I believe. All bought on ebay and run well which is fortunate. All have the later enclosed motor, not the pancake one! Thanks for all the likes guys. Robert, I have started glazing, cutting up Ferro Roche boxes and filing to shape is a dull and boring job! So best man up and crack on. I did wonder if I have overdone the grime but I did use colour photos and filth does seem to be the order of the day in the Crossley era.
  25. JHB, I went again about 10/12 yrs later and missed Lady Edith in steam by 12 hrs; the boiler was still very warm! I took photos then but cannot find them, probably lost in a previous life! And I used a much better camera, always the way.
