  1. The observant may have noticed that the tracks on the former Letterkenny line already been lifted so that the replacement bus service can use the former railway bridge to gain access to County Donegal. Stephen
  2. Santa dropped off a copy. Thanks. Stephen
  3. Santa dropped off a copy. Thanks. Stephen
  4. The funding of state owned railways is entirely at the behest of the government concerned, which is why the obvious is very often the least likely cause of action. The privatisation of BR, back whenever, has gradually been undone over the years, firstly the privately owned Railtrack morphing into the publically owned Network Rail, then the public owned operator of last resort for failed franchises, leaving only the privately owned rolling stock companies. Stephen
  5. Love them both. Thanks. Stephen
  6. Just can’t get enough of this lovely layout. Stephen
  7. The survival of the Claremorris-Collooney line virtually intact is really quite something. There remains the possibility, albeit many years hence, of reconnecting it to the national network and providing a train service from Sligo to Limerick. Stephen
  8. I look forward to progress reports over the coming months and years, in particular the sight of prototypical length trains running. Stephen
  9. Sorry, but what are you moaning about? You would have bought fourteen coaches but you’ve bought nine instead. Sell any surplus on eBay or on this website. Stephen
  10. It’ll be no good investing in a new passenger without tackling the ongoing flooding problem, says one who spent his working life trying to put right the folly of man of building in floodplains. Stephen
  11. My flabber has been well and truly ghasted. Stephen

  14. Wonderful bit of news. Stephen
  15. Makes for interesting reading, but fails to mention two points: 1) Existing container traffic between Waterford and Ballina, and 2) Developing rail freight from Rosslare, currently only roll/off. I also thought the two parts of Ireland were looking to consider the rail in the whole country rather than separately. Stephen
  16. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. This getting old isn’t for wimps. Stephen
  17. The reference to Tony Miles reminds me that I had the opportunity to see Adavoyle at its the home in Shtopshire many years ago. What a lovely day. Stephen
  18. I got my email yesterday and am just waiting for the payment request. Stephen
  19. Look forward to the return of Ballyercall in its new guise. Stephen
  20. Absolutely delightful. Stephen Another gem. Stephen
  21. Looking good. Must order some open wagons and covered vans before it’s too late. Stephen
  22. Absolutely stunning. Stephen
  23. How any others, like me, were too slow at getting round to it and have found that it is sold out? When I asked about the possibility of a reprint, the answer came back that the minimum number was 100. So, if you missed out and still want a copy, get in touch with membership@irrs.ie and get the numbers up, please. Stephen
  24. I can only agree with the comments above. I think it is important for those of us, who know how railways used to operate, pass this knowledge on the next generations so that they can operate their model railways in the correct manner rather than just play trains, not that there is anything wrong with that. Stephen
