Many years ago modelling friends used a technique called drying brushing to achieve a realistic weathered appearance. Stephen

The latest additions to my fleet of Irish wagons.
  3. I would concur with Iain Rice approach of 25 grams per axle plus brass axle bearings. Operation will be so much better when everything is to a common standard. Stephen
  4. As Mr Punch would say ‘that’s the way to do it’. The long established manufacturers in the UK all have long leadtimes, very often with little idea of actual dates. Keep up the excellent work. Stephen
  5. The damage must have proved terminal as the 165DS no longer exists. That’s a great shame as it was a small but impressive machine, which would have proved very useful to the likes of the D&CDR. Stephen
  6. And you have to pay the exorbitant postage on top! Stephen
  7. We have all come to expect good customer service. Now I don’t know if DC kits is a one man band but that might explain the poor customer service referred to, and we have just had the Christmas and New Year break. Stephen
  8. The Bug started life on the RHDR, was sold to a concern in Ireland and then, more recently, returned to the RHDR. Stephen
  9. I’m gradually fitting Kadees to my stock. They work so well and are the way forward as far as I’m concerned. Stephen
  10. I’ve had a copy for many years. It’s an absolutely lovely album stuffed full of evocative photos of all aspects of Irish railway operations. Stephen
  11. The railcar photo is quite a delight. The two railcars are from the 700 and 900 series but what is the intermediate coach? Stephen
  12. The observant may have noticed that the tracks on the former Letterkenny line already been lifted so that the replacement bus service can use the former railway bridge to gain access to County Donegal. Stephen
  13. Santa dropped off a copy. Thanks. Stephen
  14. The funding of state owned railways is entirely at the behest of the government concerned, which is why the obvious is very often the least likely cause of action. The privatisation of BR, back whenever, has gradually been undone over the years, firstly the privately owned Railtrack morphing into the publically owned Network Rail, then the public owned operator of last resort for failed franchises, leaving only the privately owned rolling stock companies. Stephen
  15. Love them both. Thanks. Stephen
  16. Just can’t get enough of this lovely layout. Stephen
  17. The survival of the Claremorris-Collooney line virtually intact is really quite something. There remains the possibility, albeit many years hence, of reconnecting it to the national network and providing a train service from Sligo to Limerick. Stephen
  18. I look forward to progress reports over the coming months and years, in particular the sight of prototypical length trains running. Stephen
  19. Sorry, but what are you moaning about? You would have bought fourteen coaches but you’ve bought nine instead. Sell any surplus on eBay or on this website. Stephen
  20. It’ll be no good investing in a new passenger without tackling the ongoing flooding problem, says one who spent his working life trying to put right the folly of man of building in floodplains. Stephen
  21. My flabber has been well and truly ghasted. Stephen
  22. I particularly like the two views of Greystones station. I’ve a soft spot for the place. Thanks. Stephen
