  1. Back then 100 quid would have been quite some sum. What was the asking price? Stephen
  2. And it’s the latter whose bits can be found all over Ireland. Stephen
  3. Do we have two 207’s here. Stephen
  4. Whilst price is a major consideration, I do see the point in paying more for an accurate model. Keep up the very good work. Stephen
  5. The trouble with strategies is that they are high level overviews only. Reconnecting Letterkenny to the railway network in Ireland comes into that category, a very good idea but how do you achieve it? In this day and age, rebuilding old lines is far more likely than new build. Stephen
  6. I have a video of a cab ride from Waterford to Wellington Bridge and it clearly shows that the road over bridges were built to accommodate double track below even if the earthworks weren’t. The two largest pieces of civil engineering, the Barrow Bridge and Taylorstown viaduct, were built as a single track structures. Stephen
  7. Presumably all the service trains were provided by UTA. How did they divi up the costs and takings, an accountant’s heaven? Stephen
  8. Let’s not forget that most of the Derry Road between Strabane and Londonderry was actually in the ROI rather than NI and so was part of the CIE network. How did that work? Stephen
  9. Like most things out of production, silly money. Stephen
  10. The financial constraints that CIE would have been under no doubt influenced the decision to go diesel, along the distinct lack of steam coal in Ireland. Stephen
  11. The existing loop outside of the train shed is being utilised for platform 6, so, surely, the new entrance to the station took account of this. Well, that’s what sane people would assume. It is such a shame that the lines to the south and west of the city were lost, otherwise Cork could have a heavy rail suburban network second to none. Stephen
  12. I believe it was 083 pulling 087, which had failed at Manulla Junction, information courtesy of Irish Railways Past and Present. Stephen
  13. The other thing that UPS are good at is losing expensive parcels, while EVRI seem to be up to their old tricks again in UK, not delivering parcels but keeping them at their depot. Nothing to do with Brexit, just useless companies. Stephen
  14. It needs saving for posterity, not left to rot in the open air. Stephen
  15. This could be the first of three circle lines running through Belfast. The second would be the re-opened GNR(I) and NCC lines through Cookstown, while third would be the re-opened former GNR(I) line to Londonderry/Derry linked to the NCC line. This would tie in with a new line to Letterkenny proposed in the All Ireland Study. Stephen
  16. I particularly liked the 4-6-0, a might have been. I understand that Dundalk works was the limiting factor for the creation of such a loco. Stephen
  17. SECR grey livery if I’m not mistaken.
  18. The first stage in re-opening the Derry Road perchance. However, one of the biggest obstacles in linking Londonderry and Letterkenny is bridging the Foyle, a wide river for some considerable length. Following the old CDJRC route would be my favourite. Stephen
  19. What have we got here? It looks like a G class in the middle of the countryside. Stephen
  20. I had the pleasure of visiting Ashford Carbonnell many years ago with, now defunct, Worcester Circle to see Adavoyle Junction in action. It was a truly lovely day. I am pleased that it survives in the care of the South Dublin MRC. Stephen
  21. Some absolutely lovely stuff there. Stephen
  22. This is not new news, it has been on their website for many a long month. Stephen
  23. Some wonderful stuff, David. Stephen
  24. None of us know when our time will be up, so make the very most of each day. RIP. Stephen
  25. What can I say but that it’s a most impressive piece of work. Keep posting progress for us, please. Stephen
