  1. I thought for a moment that Kirley had returned to this forum. No, just someone bringing to our attention his YouTube channel. Better than nothing I suppose. Stephen
  2. That is quite some report that Ove Arup has produced, including some completely new lengths of railway. There are some interesting omissions, the obvious one being Enniskillen and it’s hinterland. Stephen

    NEW 00 WORKS J15

If you look on the home page of their website, you’ll see they are producing three further versions, one with the Z boiler and two with the original boiler. Stephen

    NEW 00 WORKS J15

There is a review in the latest issue of Railway Modeller. It makes good reading. Stephen
  5. So, apparently, has mine. Stephen
  6. Surely it’s a new freight flow by rail. Stephen
  7. Condolences to you and your family on your loss. He was a fine modeller. Stephen
  8. I didn’t realise they were available now. I hadcthe idea that we were looking much later this year. I must get my order in. Looks stunning by the way. Stephen
  9. What’s the origin of the J15? It’s obviously not an 00 Works J15. Stephen
  10. More than a few years ago Ballyconnell Road was at Railwells and, just like Leslie, I spent most of my time watching it. It may be small but it is beautifully engineered and, most importantly, operated like the real thing. In particular, there is a lot of shunting of freight trains, something that is missing from many exhibits. Stephen
  11. The CIE rebuild of 1950’s stock as per the JM Design overlays. Stephen
  12. Dreams do come true. Stephen
  13. Back then 100 quid would have been quite some sum. What was the asking price? Stephen
  14. And it’s the latter whose bits can be found all over Ireland. Stephen
  15. Do we have two 207’s here. Stephen
  16. Whilst price is a major consideration, I do see the point in paying more for an accurate model. Keep up the very good work. Stephen
  17. The trouble with strategies is that they are high level overviews only. Reconnecting Letterkenny to the railway network in Ireland comes into that category, a very good idea but how do you achieve it? In this day and age, rebuilding old lines is far more likely than new build. Stephen
  18. I have a video of a cab ride from Waterford to Wellington Bridge and it clearly shows that the road over bridges were built to accommodate double track below even if the earthworks weren’t. The two largest pieces of civil engineering, the Barrow Bridge and Taylorstown viaduct, were built as a single track structures. Stephen
  19. Presumably all the service trains were provided by UTA. How did they divi up the costs and takings, an accountant’s heaven? Stephen
  20. Let’s not forget that most of the Derry Road between Strabane and Londonderry was actually in the ROI rather than NI and so was part of the CIE network. How did that work? Stephen
  21. Like most things out of production, silly money. Stephen
  22. The financial constraints that CIE would have been under no doubt influenced the decision to go diesel, along the distinct lack of steam coal in Ireland. Stephen
  23. The existing loop outside of the train shed is being utilised for platform 6, so, surely, the new entrance to the station took account of this. Well, that’s what sane people would assume. It is such a shame that the lines to the south and west of the city were lost, otherwise Cork could have a heavy rail suburban network second to none. Stephen
  24. I believe it was 083 pulling 087, which had failed at Manulla Junction, information courtesy of Irish Railways Past and Present. Stephen
  25. The other thing that UPS are good at is losing expensive parcels, while EVRI seem to be up to their old tricks again in UK, not delivering parcels but keeping them at their depot. Nothing to do with Brexit, just useless companies. Stephen
