  1. Following its closure to passengers in the late 1930’s, Broadstone was a loco and wagon maintenance facility until it’s closure in the early 1960’s. Apart from the removal of track in the passenger station, how much else was removed prior to final closure. It would make a rather interesting model loco depot. Stephen
  2. They may have sold out but there are a number on eBay, as are MM 121 class. Stephen
  3. Imagine, if you will, how different things might have been if the Cork City Railway had been built along the lines of the link line in Dublin ie a double track elevated railway, allowing a better connection between the railways of west Cork and the rest of the network. A good prototype for a model railway me thinks. Stephen
  4. Re-opening should act as a catalyst for new investment in the Youghal area in terms of housing, employment and, not least, tourism. Stephen
  5. The trouble with all the delivery companies is that they have made themselves uncontactable when there are problems. Stephen
  6. I’ve had both surgery and radiotherapy as part of cancer treatment but chemo is in a different league. Keep strong and you’ll come out the other side. My very best wishes. Stephen
  7. Weren’t there plans to use it on the Loughrea branch? Stephen
  8. It’s nice to see a reasonable length freight train running on a model railway. Stephen
  9. Exciting times. Stephen
  10. That’s very sad news as I have nothing but praise for what you have produced. Please find a way to continue producing such fine models, which are much in demand. Stephen
  11. He was a modeller extraordinaire and will be sadly missed. His prose was very readable. Stephen
  12. Their first non modern image wagon and it’s a southern wagon. Brilliant. Stephen
  13. The new signal box looks the db’s. Stephen
  14. If the Cork city railway had been elevated rather than at ground level, there’s no telling what might have happened, all sorts of connecting services with maybe the west Cork lines staying open. Oh, the power of imagination. Stephen
  15. I think the link will explain everything. Happy reading. Stephen
  16. A combination of home and starter signals. Stephen

    Customs & VAT

It’s the inconsistency that gets me. The first time I bought from John in NZ, I had to pay a whole load of import, for want of a better expression, but the second time there was nothing to pay. Either way, the models were worth the wait. Thanks John. Stephen
  18. Yes, it was the photographer I was referring to as Mr Wright. He appears on his own layout Little Bytham complete with camera. Stephen
  19. What’s the carriage immediately behind 372? Stephen
  20. Are you thinking of a certain Mr Wright? Stephen
  21. Andy Cundick has a very evocative model of Courtmacsherry. Well worth seeing. Stephen

    IRM Fert Wagon

Speaking as a layman, the economics of rail operation are always very different to those of road operation. Privatisation in the UK did not appear to improve matters, although there have been increases in both passenger and freight traffic. Stephen
  24. Lovely models. Stephen
  25. The broadside view of 107 in black and white reminds me very much of Wainwright’s P class on the SECR. Stephen
