  1. The photo of Albert Quay is interesting in that the whole station area is awash with goods wagons. Oh the way things used to be in both of the islands. Stephen
  2. Considerable growth in the rail network in the Limerick area is proposed according to the latest issue of Railway Magazine. The already announced doubling of the line to Limerick Junction, plus re-opening the lines to Castlemungret and Adare to passenger traffic, two park and ride stations on the lines to Limerick Junction and Ballybrophy, a new station on the Ennis line and a rail link to Shannon airport. Big plans but then that is what is required to meet the challenge of combat global warming. Stephen
  3. And the Greystones shuttle. Stephen
  4. Does light grey also apply to Bulleid’s open wagons? Stephen
  5. Yup, weathering covers a multitude of sins. Stephen
  6. All the photos I’ve seen of CIE wagons have it as a very light grey. Is BR unfitted grey the correct shade? Stephen
  7. The boilers of the K1a’s would have been raised, just like the U1’s, to accommodate the larger diameter driving wheels. Stephen
  8. Regrettably that is the situation in railway preservation today. No matter how worthwhile something is, you can’t always save it for posterity. I have to hope that the sole surviving 2600 series railcar at Downpatrick will eventually be restored for future generations to see a significant piece of railway history. Stephen
  9. Has anyone spoken to Simon Dawson aka rue-d-etropal.com. He produces a fair amount of Irish prototypes already. Stephen
  10. I wonder how many other members of ICE there are on IRM? Stephen MICE
  11. I view rmweb on an iPad and the advert situation is destroying my enjoyment of the site. This has been raised with the powers that be and they are less than receptive. There are some on this site who can corroborate this. Long live IRM. Stephen
  12. So the 2700 railcars are being put to good use after death. Stephen
  13. I went on Saturday, not my normal day but my son came up from Plymouth this time so Saturday it was. It didn’t appear to be as crowded as previous years but a lovely day out nonetheless. It’s just a shame it is so expensive. Parking in Birmingham International station helped keep the cost down a bit. Stephen
  14. I think it’s Kitwood Hill Hobbies. Stephen
  15. Your work rate is quite something. Stephen
  16. Most would seem to be in the order of 40’-45’ diameter. Stephen
  17. Oh, you do like to tease us with your little snippets.
  18. Following its closure to passengers in the late 1930’s, Broadstone was a loco and wagon maintenance facility until it’s closure in the early 1960’s. Apart from the removal of track in the passenger station, how much else was removed prior to final closure. It would make a rather interesting model loco depot. Stephen
  19. They may have sold out but there are a number on eBay, as are MM 121 class. Stephen
  20. Imagine, if you will, how different things might have been if the Cork City Railway had been built along the lines of the link line in Dublin ie a double track elevated railway, allowing a better connection between the railways of west Cork and the rest of the network. A good prototype for a model railway me thinks. Stephen
  21. Re-opening should act as a catalyst for new investment in the Youghal area in terms of housing, employment and, not least, tourism. Stephen
  22. The trouble with all the delivery companies is that they have made themselves uncontactable when there are problems. Stephen
  23. I’ve had both surgery and radiotherapy as part of cancer treatment but chemo is in a different league. Keep strong and you’ll come out the other side. My very best wishes. Stephen
  24. Weren’t there plans to use it on the Loughrea branch? Stephen
  25. It’s nice to see a reasonable length freight train running on a model railway. Stephen
