  1. Correct and the K1a (393 Class) had modifications to the frame to accept the larger driving wheels and consequently small splashers. The model is basically correct for any of the K class up to No. 391. Since the MGWR purchased the kits in 1924, only one was completed by the MGWR. The MGWR as one of the three major companies first to be absorbed into the GSR late in that year. The remainder of the kits (except the spare) were completed by the GSR.
  2. A triangular spigot and hole would help prevent this (well, nothing is fool proof, but it would look pretty odd)
  3. Got mine too Not sure if this is the most appropriate place to post but the very first picture in the book shows 111 (not 112) with a train of bubbles from Cabra iirc. Was just wondering why 111 was so far out of her native territory?
  4. Thanks for that, @flange lubricator. I had seen these in Cork yard and wasn't quite sure of the company. Here in the company of a CIE 40' and 20' (or 2x10's on top) so the difference is noticeable. Were they transported on 42' flats? The Tara Mines wagons normally took the zinc ore to Dublin port but for a short period of only 6 week in the 90s it was transported to Arklow before 'resumption' of traffic to Dublin. Not sure if this traffic was in addition to or in lieu of the usual working but the ore was transported in what I though were double height open wagons covered with blue tarps. This photo from Adrian Roche in Cork and @h gricer comments suggest they were open top containers https://www.flickr.com/photos/86202570@N02/26710573651/in/photolist-GGjEXV-F7oitJ-24FUSwq-GQNs88-Goadkb-GDYRy7-2dSksi8-JNKwGx-FSLqRC-GoaEnG-FSUd58-GoaUXd-FSUNjR-GDZqCy-24iqcyL-FSVHMc-FSVN8g-GDZtEf-GL4WrS-GGjKwp-RhQTHW-GNfW1B-JbT9CK-FSTY1g-GobSWs-TKmkaN-S6JYkd-TKkRiA-24iqcwb-HSdywP-qHDoGJ-2ezbmkq-wPLHYk-Tpiukw-wXciEu-rjuHuH-23nqegE-EiToDA-UucJZx-Ts9qkM-DotVFu-UC6xgS-wFjQqW-kuukAn-EaLdCG-UFKFYr-TsayLH-TsaJsM-Tpg7nY-Uuejnn John, @Mayner I alway thought these were an interesting fertilizer wagon. Were these unloaded by lowered the CIE end-piece over the buffers or was this to prevent the load moving only? or they stanchions were removed for side loading/unloading?
  5. As Ironroad says these are very nice sets (I actually have two) Just for the coaches and loco alone these are a very nice buy. If you get the US set it saves you renumbering if you ultimately find some more in EU zone.
  6. Looking online, p.33 of this book has an image of a very early non-ISO B&I container with the company flag and Dublin-Liverpool on the side (not really sure how to show the actual image but you can see a small version on google books)
  7. The only raised track that I'm aware of at Inchicore would have been to the GSR coaling tower, but not sure why the hoppers and fuel oil would have been up there? From your good self
  8. Jim, you just need to work out in which year Dec 16th next falls on a Monday
  9. They're not the same bodies from the B&I liner which must have been rare as no-one appears to have photos of one close up, but those Mk1 keg swap bodies were all over the place in the 60s. Personally I like those insulated CIE containers. Their paucity means they'll probably never see the light of day unless by chance they're identical to something else like the Bell 20' reefer. Lovely photos despite their age. Thanks for posting, John. Incidentally what's a "Lancashire flat"?
  10. It seems to me that the problem seems so slight that once the wagons run they will probably right themselves. Maybe the oil route first to get them running and that will hopefully do what irishthump did. I think the factory will need to up its game and do a punitive small run of magnesites (or a large run of various laminates) in compensation
  11. Speaking of Gypsums I seem to recall the following hope
  12. Just to point out to a junior member: Some products may have a US transformer voltage/plug but if that's not an issue then you're good. @Look-its-evanClick on Ironroad's logo and you can private message him for details (he may not want to put his email on a forum viewable by non-members) My one was for the US market but they're hardish to come by and while they're not true to prototype they're a very nice starting point for 1950s era
  13. Minor differences such as the color of the hand wheel but that''s about it
  14. An early B&I container at Limerick along with the funky CIE Bulk Cement trucks that I like the shape of. The latter are white to match the CIE ivory cement bubbles although I only seem to recall them in orange The Consent Leasing (CAI) was a lighter color, thanks for clarifying @MOGUL https://ukrailwaypics.smugmug.com/The-Humble-Box/TheHumbleBox-Operator/N/NEVU/i-CnhcN4w The first photo above at North wall also has 20ft containers from Harrison Line and CAST https://ukrailwaypics.smugmug.com/The-Humble-Box/TheHumbleBox-Operator/Container-operators-H/HARU-Harrison-Line/i-cgHMF4z/A
  15. 40' CIE atacked the right side at North Wall @Arran https://www.flickr.com/photos/22715632@N02/25789730127/in/photolist-2fLSiCC-mUvqW8-qFSTHf-Q2YdSu-2cXQkQz-MhVjmy-FhX7gr-ndnT6w-9zUet6-bv877x-9wWsLT-bv87JH-az1Cu8-eexrgb-eexrEN-eexsom-eexrzq-eexrKA-eexrDJ-eexsCd/
  16. Interesting to see the hogsheads and kegs like new metal casks rather than cylindrical kegs. Lovely views of the old unfitted covered wagons. By 1960 Broadstone station and works had closed and although the loco depot seems a hove of activity the loco depot was in its last last year. Dieselisation was now well under way and steam singing its swan song. Lots of oil tankers behind the turf burner although that poor old open wagon has seen better days. Interesting photos. Thanks for posting!
  17. Marry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all
  18. Looks like it to me. Its not identical but we're looking at the offside. That sloping engine compartment must be fairly unusual
  19. Ah, you didn't mention larceny as a second offense. No parole from the bedroom then. You might write to Hornby requesting a duplicate code. Useless unless the physical device has been purchased, right? might be helpful https://www.hornby.com/us-en/forum/elink-activation-code/?p=1
  20. I was reading my excellent copy recently and only got partway through before being distracted by some useless activity (employment or some such impediment). Must get back to it. Agree, very nice book
  21. Your e-grandson being a product of the modern world was merely trying to inform that the software can be downloaded online, and as long as the activation code on the CD sleeve has not been muddied beyond recognition you (and your locos) should be good to go
  22. Many Happy Returns to You & Yours Eamonn!
  23. Some nice new addition to Ernie's archive I always like to look in the background and what are they?
  24. P and O Roll Off (Pandoro) might have been for road roro but must have been on rails somewhere I would have thought. Personally I love the P&O containers colour scheme. B&I liner with the original red on grey B&I livery form the O'Dea collection http://catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000307819 The O Dea photos clearly shows the older B&I 'Arrow' logo not the from container that was carried the funnels of the British & Irish Steam Packet ships like MV Leinster
  25. Sorry, I was probably being a bit lazy there but they're probably Evergreen running in the Bell liner, although I don't actually see that on the side like these. They may be an older style of container than this https://www.c-rail-intermodal.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=97&search=evergreen Then again, some green containers in Ireland belonged to others, CAI International in this case (NEVU), Galway, date unknown You do see some things not quite up to the company's standard livery like they second 20ft Bell cube on this and they didn't all have white roofs The 20ft B&I line containers from the 70s had very different styling & logo, not sure why they were alternated on the liner behind B131 And to get slightly off topic, there were even 10ft Uniload cubes, all of these being on 4w flat rather than the 42' Link to an old thread which has some useful info on containers/Bell etc.
