  1. Thanks looked at that photo. I have the GSR book by Murray. Shame that picture is so small. there don't seem to be many closer views or from another angle but reasonable view of the gantry all right. These old coaches are very interesting but don't have a great knowledge of the DSER stock. Nice 1950s built composite in the background and brake laminate behind the DSER
  2. I know there is a perception they will might be more popular but at least there has been some rtr versions of the Mk3. Mk4 is about as far from my modeling interest as you can get but that's just personal interest. They're limited geographically and time wise from my point of view whereas the earlier coaches ran nearly everywhere for a long period. I will say I would have made an exception and bought (Supertrain )Mk3s if they had come out! We live in hope for our personal interests I suppose.
  3. The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex area could definitely do with that extension but I wondering how the DFW airport will fit in with it through trains as it is a branch. The way the terminal are set up is kinda messy, transferring from one terminal to another by car is bad, easier by train but the time taken in the airport by the DART would prolong the travel time between the cities if the trains take an extra five terminal stops in the middle
  4. Carriages would be nice (especially CIE build 50s built)
  5. @NoelWe would all like to see that then. Thanks for highlighting it
  6. Very nice indeed. Do you know what chip that is? Sugar cube speaker I presume? Imagine it with livery applied!!
  7. Looks authentic with the few CIE containers thrown into the rake
  8. He passed a tape? Poor lad! Not sure about it being record breaking, maybe just a load of BS?
  9. I tried to complete this twice but it always sticks on page 5 of 6, not sure why? Tried it again. Third time’s a charm! Voted for some new quartet of lads, anyone heard of them?
  10. You’re sure you didn’t just mix up the lids there with the excitement of taking them out of their boxes now? You should know not to contaminate Exhibit A with Exhibit B&I (all the Specsavers had left) Happy New Year!
  11. Sorry didn't understand your question, Dave ?
  12. Is that like or unlike any of the Irish container cranes and from what era? I saw these on sale often but then looked for similarities to something Irish and wasn't sure if they were really similar other than being a crane
  13. Do you have a link for that photo, Ernie? Interested in coaling stages and towers in Ireland but there seems to be few photos/ little written about them And the chocks under the wheels confirming you point about it being stationary
  14. I hear you George. I don't know if the tooling still exists and is good enough for another run but if not well you can see for yourself what the 121s and A will come in at. Apple to apples the 141s were DCC ready but didn't come with a speaker as sound has become the norm as time has passed. Has to be some amount of inflation in prices as I said. As for exchange rates well let's just hope they were decent at the time of payment for 121s and As.
  15. There was a bunch of them on during the last week all making less than GBP130. I should have probably posted a link as my own stocks are ok (my bad, sorry)
  16. Correct and the K1a (393 Class) had modifications to the frame to accept the larger driving wheels and consequently small splashers. The model is basically correct for any of the K class up to No. 391. Since the MGWR purchased the kits in 1924, only one was completed by the MGWR. The MGWR as one of the three major companies first to be absorbed into the GSR late in that year. The remainder of the kits (except the spare) were completed by the GSR.
  17. A triangular spigot and hole would help prevent this (well, nothing is fool proof, but it would look pretty odd)
  18. Got mine too Not sure if this is the most appropriate place to post but the very first picture in the book shows 111 (not 112) with a train of bubbles from Cabra iirc. Was just wondering why 111 was so far out of her native territory?
  19. Thanks for that, @flange lubricator. I had seen these in Cork yard and wasn't quite sure of the company. Here in the company of a CIE 40' and 20' (or 2x10's on top) so the difference is noticeable. Were they transported on 42' flats? The Tara Mines wagons normally took the zinc ore to Dublin port but for a short period of only 6 week in the 90s it was transported to Arklow before 'resumption' of traffic to Dublin. Not sure if this traffic was in addition to or in lieu of the usual working but the ore was transported in what I though were double height open wagons covered with blue tarps. This photo from Adrian Roche in Cork and @h gricer comments suggest they were open top containers https://www.flickr.com/photos/86202570@N02/26710573651/in/photolist-GGjEXV-F7oitJ-24FUSwq-GQNs88-Goadkb-GDYRy7-2dSksi8-JNKwGx-FSLqRC-GoaEnG-FSUd58-GoaUXd-FSUNjR-GDZqCy-24iqcyL-FSVHMc-FSVN8g-GDZtEf-GL4WrS-GGjKwp-RhQTHW-GNfW1B-JbT9CK-FSTY1g-GobSWs-TKmkaN-S6JYkd-TKkRiA-24iqcwb-HSdywP-qHDoGJ-2ezbmkq-wPLHYk-Tpiukw-wXciEu-rjuHuH-23nqegE-EiToDA-UucJZx-Ts9qkM-DotVFu-UC6xgS-wFjQqW-kuukAn-EaLdCG-UFKFYr-TsayLH-TsaJsM-Tpg7nY-Uuejnn John, @Mayner I alway thought these were an interesting fertilizer wagon. Were these unloaded by lowered the CIE end-piece over the buffers or was this to prevent the load moving only? or they stanchions were removed for side loading/unloading?
  20. As Ironroad says these are very nice sets (I actually have two) Just for the coaches and loco alone these are a very nice buy. If you get the US set it saves you renumbering if you ultimately find some more in EU zone.
  21. Looking online, p.33 of this book has an image of a very early non-ISO B&I container with the company flag and Dublin-Liverpool on the side (not really sure how to show the actual image but you can see a small version on google books)
  22. The only raised track that I'm aware of at Inchicore would have been to the GSR coaling tower, but not sure why the hoppers and fuel oil would have been up there? From your good self
  23. Jim, you just need to work out in which year Dec 16th next falls on a Monday
  24. They're not the same bodies from the B&I liner which must have been rare as no-one appears to have photos of one close up, but those Mk1 keg swap bodies were all over the place in the 60s. Personally I like those insulated CIE containers. Their paucity means they'll probably never see the light of day unless by chance they're identical to something else like the Bell 20' reefer. Lovely photos despite their age. Thanks for posting, John. Incidentally what's a "Lancashire flat"?
  25. It seems to me that the problem seems so slight that once the wagons run they will probably right themselves. Maybe the oil route first to get them running and that will hopefully do what irishthump did. I think the factory will need to up its game and do a punitive small run of magnesites (or a large run of various laminates) in compensation
