  1. Were the tablet catchers moved upwards at some point or was there a 'set' position (lower) and a' retrieved/inactive' position higher up? In all of the original grey and yellow liveries the tablet catcher is set lower on the loco and does not reach the cab side side window (which doesn't appear to have been altered) whereas, in many/most BnT livery and after, the catchers (where present) seem to reach the base of the side window
  2. Lovely magnesite wagons, Dave ....and rebuilt A24 of course!
  3. They weren't .... and even in Ernie's great collection alone you can see pictures of 121s without the MU socket to connect the cable for multiple working. MU socket with cable Double heading in Supertrain 1978 including 122 with visible MU sock on the cab end also 122 in 1970s Supertrain without any evidence of a MU socket on the bonnet end yet (the end usually coupled in consist with another 121 as with 130 above, but they were also fitted on the cab end) The handrails were generally fitted from 1971 onwards to 121 catwalks B121 in 1974 with handrails still in BnT livery coupled to 141 Supertrain Apologies Ernie for posting so many links to your album
  4. So the tan roundel about '62/63 but some As in black with numbers only , no roundel. This seems to have been the norm for a bit before the tan roundel was introduced on the black livery (actually no IRM black A with the tan roundel but I'm much happier to have the yellow warning panels version, so no criticism intended). Then, all white roundel introduced post '65 although I have observed As and some Cs with the tan roundels through at least '69, maybe followed by the standard white roundel after that. Crikey, I though they had disappeared before the green was through at least
  5. I'll need a new home for all these models if I don't have to get a new home for myself first!
  6. The first will probably set you back EUR40 for postage and the clever dicks in Irish customs will want a percentage as there is no free import allowance like in the US. There they won't even bother with anything less than $200. Be aware the item is likely the US version with a 120V AC adapter and plug unless it's going to share with an existing layout with three pin plug on 240v AC in. The second doesn't post to UK and likely not Ireland but you could enquire.
  7. I was going to ask the (very busy) mods to delete the erroneous thread but let's leave it for kicks now! I do like the plot ..... This is for a movie, Jim .... or are we talking something else here.....?
  8. Not sure. An original might be? Not in my locality I'm afraid
  9. "GSWR Carriage Diagrams" by H Richards & B Pender a 1975 Transport Research Associates, re-print of the 1924 GSWR Carriage Diagram Book I have been looking for a copy of this for the last several years and should have probably started on here first. If anyone has a copy, original or reprint, that the would be willing to part with, donate to a fellow modeler, sell, loan, put on a 99-year lease, lose in my general vicinity etc. I would appreciate if you would kindly PM me. Thank you
  10. They're still very popular and could probably do with a re-run at an appropriate time (which might not be now with so much new Irish stock coming on line including the 121). Marks commissioned an additional run of the IE version which was very popular. Hopefully some 141s will come back onto the market as hoarded and excess stock is offloaded to purchase newer Irish items so there isn't a repetition of the Lima 201 model scenario. It would be nice to have any Irish model on display and available to purchase at any point in an ideal world and although some of the IRModels stock have sold out, they are at least issuing early additional releases rather than sticking the moulds in the vault like Disney videos. As for the 121, hold back the price of a pint each week (like an extended Lent) and you have money up front before they arrive.
  11. I was going through the color schemes on the IRModels site and noticed the white from band on the rebuilt BnT locoa seem to be missing the band above the headlight. Admittedly the band is pretty filthy in most shots with grime from the roof or the lamp itself maybe. I'm sure that just a fine tuning item. Does anyone know if the flying snail was applied to A1 before going into service and when the sandboxes were finally removed? When was the tan CIE roundel applied to the black livery in general? When did the pale CIE super train roundel come into being? Thanks
  12. John, @Mayner What's your reference for older pre-CIE or pre-GSR stock I have a few books on the GSWR etc but very hard to find a reference for rolling stock as opposed to the locos themselves? Thanks
  13. Excellent shots as always Ernie but have the say that the TPO is fantastic with the collecting apparatus still in use/in place! Would anyone happen to know the origin of that 6w? TPO, maybe GSWR? TIA
  14. Amazing rake of 2 dozen bubbles! This is post 1994 IE era with the bubbles sporting ivory tanks and black chassis (all of which are completed obscured by cement!)
  15. Can you post a link to that video, would be interested to see... ?
  16. Whats the origin of the last 4w XP wagon?
  17. HI Richie, Gunsmoke is the word I was searching for and I certainly remember getting old photos processed myself decades ago and varying degree of variability from reality as determined by the camera, film and processor.
  18. Thanks for that, Fran. It's not easy to make out the chassis color in old photos and I had to brighten mine significantly also and came to the same conclusion. Thanks for that photo of the unloading though. I would have to say that the grey in all the photos seem to have a 'blue steel' (pardon the pun) appearance which I also see in the CADs on the IRModels site. Is the photo at the top of the thread the finished grey as this seems different to most photos I've seen (which are few)
  19. Grey for me but didn't the slate grey have a grey chassis or that's just for the mockup? They look nice thought, really crisp. Really happy to see these coming
  20. The plough being modeled very closely to prototype, surely the question should be whether 16mm track would foul the inside of the plough particularly on unconventionally tight non-prototypical curves?
  21. I too was hoping for some CIE before re-runs ....
