  1. The website isn't doing you guys any favors right now
  2. Peter what track and especially points are you using. Hornby are not very highly rated by most who have used them and can be more problematic than others. Peco is one of the preferred commonly available points. I should be mixable with any straight and curves from other manufacture provided it is all code 100 track (or whatever). Leslie, is this an electrical problem? DC or DCC and how is it wired. To lose traction mechanically the wheels on the loco or the track would have to be out of balance or a combination of both at that particular place on the layout
  3. Fantastic clip, Sulzer! This era has such variety it's just asking for some more stock to be available for it. So many things on this video too numerous to mention, laminate composites, Parks royals, C class, leopards, ranks grain wagons, top'n'tail Hunslets, Guinness tubs and tanktainers yard cranes, brake laminates, tin vans, railcars Weak at the knees here, lads ...... and it's not the wine Goodnight
  4. You should try both, Peter (that's a pseudonym, I'm sure;)) Longer carriages may have problems own tighter radii but smaller wagons and short wheelbase locos will need to be tested over points to ensure a smooth run and lack of any electrical problems
  5. Donal Murray's book on the GSR has pictures of both 385 (broad gauge) and 395 (narrow gauge) on p.78. The West Clare must only have had narrow gauge passengers to fit the same number of passengers into a railcar with one window less per side and a car that was 54" shorter Wrt the PW one, the door is open and obscures the profile view but it certainly seems to be no more than 4 windows per side with running boards only on the front door. I'm not sure if there is a second door on it at all. Is that IRS Drewry book available still?
  6. This broad gauge Drewry railcar is shorter and without a livery other than its own timbers. This one is for PW work It would seem that had to be hand cranked too?
  7. Thanks, John. Were they filled from above and discharged from the pipes beneath?
  8. The O' Dea shots are amazingly clear and you can see the cap on what I'm presuming is a filler/discharge pipe? under the chassis on both sides, T'd into the tank above. One of the O' Dea pictures has the hose attached on 25008 and warning signs of the thin shell on 25009. Where were the heating coils and what supplied steam when they were in transit?
  9. Aaaand,.. now one can understand why Brexit was carried. Anyway, the 'Bay had been quite off the wall lately with very large sums bid for almost everything model railway related. I haven't even bid on anything in a couple of months, not that I really need anything, I suppose....
  10. Was JB able to clarify when tat photo was taken?
  11. Odd I can see it at all going through the google link or typing the address
  12. Looks like the website is down or expired? https://newirishlines.org
  13. Where are the roof vents vents from?
  14. These are very nice etches but for the purist the are not prototypical for length as they're designed for a specific donor to make them affordable. It's a shame there isn't a suitable Irish donor of the correct width and shape. I'm holding out to see if John can do a full length and width coach or series of coaches when he has completed the long list of other projects he has. While I did't when I should have I may special order from him if the full length coach does not materialize. Well done, Rich for having a stab at lighting the coach. There are several videos online of single LEDs with a diffuser attempting to light a coach but it is very uneven and better with at least two. You can get strips of LEDs with have all the circuitry built into the strip including a bridge rectifier which will sort out any problems with polarity for the LEDs if powered from the track via the bogies. Should not a be a problem for you since you've gone with batteries placed in , well, the under frame battery box! I can't recall if the strips have any capacitance built in to reduce flicker but again probably not a problem with batteries.
  15. The reason that I brought it up was that this loco is so new. However, dirt sticks quickly with steamers still around etc. Even newer photo probably sitting on her bogies for the first time at North Wall which suggest you're correct about the lack of a black line, although I don't see any here to be honest. Were they stripes on the skirt sprayed on, or applied like Tippex lines on later liveries? I have forgotten to whom this should be credited and i apologise in advance That's very interesting, Jim as we have tried to infer color between B&W photos before. I suppose in a single photo the colors would at least be uniform and the there's definitely some lining issue on the snails and number which des not appear to occur between the body color and lines on the front skirt
  16. Good for you, Craven. There is very little stock really available for the late 50s/early 60s period which is a very interesting period. When we have a reliable supply of these, maybe we can discuss the imperfections in the IFM models. They are a little expensive. I'm surprised the collectors haven't picked up three of each model from a small Irish business rather than completely non-prototypical pieces with a large foreign manufacturers brand stamped on them.
  17. I thought exactly that as I looked at the photo. There seems to be a clear black lining to both the snail and the number whereas no such contrast exists between the yellow and grey above and below the bufferbeam
  18. Just seeing this post late. Very nice tank wagons
  19. Short but interesting
  20. Looks great! Stick some moss on it and put it in the preservation siding
  21. Some great shots on this whole thread
  22. Have these magazines been digitized and if so are they freely accessible somewhere or only by membership? Was going to have a browse ....
  23. Very impressive models indeed, Dave
