  1. Scalefour Society do 21mm gauge back to back and track gauges.21mm gauge w irons are done by SSM and Prickley Pear. Driving wheels Alan Gibson with homemade axles(1/8" steel bar hacksaw then file in drill chuck),other wheels Gibson with homemade axles(1.5 or 2mm steel rod with pin points done in drill with grinding block). Its also a good idea to subscribe to New Irish Lines. Its surprising what there is out there i've just finished the Judith Edge kit for NCC No22 which is trundling up and down Valencia as happy as a sand boy still not quite sure how she would of got there and am now putting the finishing touches to one of the DNGR tanks which i've had half built for while all good fun Andy.
  2. If its any help wagon 298 was rebuilt at Dundalk 1949/50 and as shes in the older livery and somewhat distressed, that might help narrow down the timescaleAndy.
  3. Terribly sorry but i don't have any pictures to be honest i don't usually bother as i'looking at them most days ,the other problem is i wouldn't have a clue how to put them on here (Don't do computers)however i seem to remember she appears on a U Tube video with Valencia on it if i can find it again i'll let you know.It has occered to me that i might do layout based on the Cork harbour lines, where she would be quite at home it would justify the two Bandon tanks as well not to mention the Courtmacsherry stock. Andy.
  4. Mine was converted from a Chivers 0330 tank kit .An easy one to do the main alteration was redoing the cab and widening the gauge, simple the problem being that its neither appropriate for Valencia or Courtmacsherry,Andy.
  5. Courtmacsherrys there as well.must go and find it,i'm sure i saw it the other day,Andy
  6. I am there but with a Welsh layout, the next Irish layout is underway however,Andy.
  7. Sorry but 3850(GW 280) with 23 coaches on coming up the bank towards Washford station, knocks the spots of any diesel, sheer brute power,Andy.
  8. Ex Swindon boilermaker, nuff said,Andy.
  9. The big problem comes with steamers when you can see the wheels behind the splashers, but when all is said and done each to his own,Andy.
  10. Its worth bearing in mind that any colour starts to change as soon as it comes out of the paint shop.Andy.
  11. It does work the other way all my layouts regularly travel in a 1960's Land Rover(1962 to be precise)including the 900 mile round trip to Cultra with Castlederg.Andy.
  12. Slight point of order the Railway Magazine goes back to 1897,with some very handy artcles in them even if thepictures can be rather dark,Andy.
  13. Better have one to go with the other two,Andy
  14. Now if it was a kit for the right gauge then i'd be up for one Andy
  15. Perth Model Railway exhibition,Valencia Harbour having a little trip up there from Wiltshire, what larks,Andy.
  16. You could always count the bricks and then work out the height and length from that done it a few times and it works for me.The trick to get the number of bricks and then go and measure a wall to the corresponding number of courses. Its also useful to remember that a standard is 6'6" high.Andy.
  17. The easier answer is 5 thou brass ,rolls easily and robust once curved simple to form elliptical roofs and easy to solder on rainstrips etc,Andy.
  18. My Passage tank will make to Arigna which it did a few times over the weekend,,just fits on the turntable ,its one of the reasons theres another C&L layout in the pipeline.ANdy
  19. Ditto again apart from being clobbered for tax still splendid kits, next on the workbench, once" Tailte"is finished(not sure how to justify a Queen on either Valencia or Courtmacsherry)Andy.
  20. Either option would do for me,though would prefer complete kit,Andy
  21. Look forward to it Phil, you're welcome to come and have a play.Andy.
  22. Phil Looks like you got me back i've been looking at doing Bawnboy Road ,as a "mainline" Cavan layout to accommodate all the stock which has got to be more than enough for Arigna so i might move down the line a bit and do Ballyconnel .Incidentally Arigna has a little trip out next month to Ally Pally.Andy.
  23. Have you thought of using MJT bogies, they do a basic etch for various wheelbases and you can use the existing sideframes as cosmetic overlays as well as the original wheels.Andy
  24. Definitely a loco type boiler looks a bit small for most standard gauge locos.Andy.
  25. Feeling slightly qualified to answer this one,the best coverage is The Railways of West Cork ,Reflections and Reminiscences, its privately published so no isbn or even an authors name.Mine came from the County Donegal people at Donegal Town station. The Bluebell Railway markets a large range of Irish photos with some very good T&C ones in there even better there are thumbnails of the pictures so you can see before you buy. go onto the Bluebell website then their museum link then photo collections the John Smith one is the one to check up on.Andy.
