Private Pike is looking very soldierly 🫡

Thanks - the scarf was made by rolling out a thin line of Humbrol putty, flattening it and trimming it in place.

Coal loads to be added followed by weathering (or vice versa).

Then seven more to go…

Primer on.  The detail on the resin moulded parts is superb.

I’ve even got some model sugar beets with which to load the wagons.

Strictly speaking they’re HO rather than OO but hopefully no one will mind…

Lovely work on the beet wagons Darius, they are a fantastic kit to build, well done Leslie. Can I ask what primer you used as I used Halfords red primer and I just think it looks a bit heavy, maybe I overdid it, anyway can't wait to see the finished wagons👍. Cheers John.

Thanks, Darius, they do look very well.

However, I'm just the middle man - the Modelling Genius is Michael Rayner, who is EIGHTY on Wednesday! I must get a card in the post!!!!

Having persuaded him to do the Bulleid corrugated wagon (not an easy modelling task) - they sold pretty well (my best seller);  the next step was to copy IR, stack two bodies on each other and make a flat chassis to go underneath and Hey Presto a Double-height  Beet wagon.

Not content with that, we sell the flat on it's own .......

Fantastic looking, the colour looks really class, can I ask what colour and type of paint you used, it would be a great help to me as mine are in red primer limbo for the last couple of years. That's what I like about your work bench we don't have to wait too long for the finished result 😀, cheers and thanks, John.

Hi John,

For the base colour I airbrushed Phoenix “Rusty Nails” Track Colour enamel mixed with a little Matt Black and thinned for airbrushing.  Once dry I misted on a weak coat of light grey.

Sugar beet loads added.

He's not finished yet - I've another parcel of kits to send to him in the morning!

Maybe I should buy some of your kits which you can "accidentally" send to him, and once he posts the finished work on the forum, you can say "Oh sorry, my mistake, those forty wagons were for DJD and I need them back" ...

How I did the beet loads.

Load support “tables” made from 2mm thick card and glued together using pva.

IMG_8485.jpeg.a6c823fbc60aa3b2ae139137c32f211c.jpeg

Tabletops painted black (to stop any light card colour showing through) and tables dropped into the wagon.

IMG_8488.jpeg.dbc87d8dce4046375e1442b3156b65d3.jpeg

Neat pva applied to the tabletops and beets spooned on - pressing them in gently with fingertips.

IMG_8490.jpeg.b9fddbd714240337d9b37506db462581.jpeg

Beets secured in place using diluted pva - sort of ballasting with beets.

Loaded wagons join the rake.

Now your talking, my absolute favourite of Leslie's wagons, that's because I remember seeing the real wagons many moons ago. Once again Darius very well done and would you mind telling me what colours you are using to paint, thanks.
