krose Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 I love these burmah tankers. I haven't seen any pictures of the real thing, can anyone point me in the right direction?
Mayner Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 (edited) There were 6 Burmah tank wagons 4 with Blue Tank Barrels and 2 with Red & White painted barrels for Class A traffic (Petrol) used between Cork & Limerick. The upper half of the Class A Barrels were painted white and the bottom half red or vice-versa. I haven't come across any photos on the web, Joe St. Ledger recorded anything that moved in Cork, there are photos in one of the IRRS Journals when the traffic started around 1972-3 and a photo of a blue wagon in Locomotives & Rolling Stock of CIE & NIR by Doyle & Hirsch if you can get a hold of a copy. krose Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Thanks John. I did a bit of googling yesterday but didn't come up with much.
scahalane Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 I love these burmah tankers. I haven't seen any pictures of the real thing, can anyone point me in the right direction? I have a couple of detail shots of them I took in Cork around '89 - '90. However there's no trace of the original colour on them as they're heavily weathered to a brownish black. I'll have a route round for them and stick them up if your still interested.
krose Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Yea Scahalane that would be great if you could post them.
Robert Davies Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 This is the Burmah decal detailing, thanking Mr Church! Remember, this is available currently. F28 That is one seriously tidy build! The quality of the Dapol mouldings nowadays is pretty dreadful - It's almost worth digging up some of the old original Airfix kits, they may be old but the mouldings are spot on. Still can't get over how tidy a build that Burmah tank above is...
scahalane Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 As promised hope you like, as I said I shot these in Cork around '89 - '90, wish I did a lot more, but in the days before digi cameras you watched how many snaps you took!!
Flying Scotsman 4472 Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Great photos there Scahalane thanks for posting them up
krose Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Thanks for the photos Sean. They will be very handy whenever I get around to weathering.
Weshty Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 (edited) Well, the etches arrived in the post today, so here's how they look. The side strengthening detail is easy enough. Hold down the angle length with blue tack, hold teh trangles with a tweezers, apply superglue and slot in the designated holes....voila! The hardest part was cutting the C034 chassi to size and making sure the solebars are correctly cut... Edited February 4, 2013 by Weshty
Garfield Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Brilliant stuff, Des! Looking forward to getting some of these.
heirflick Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 excelent Des! is the model a dapol esso tank?
Weshty Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 (edited) Yup, a Dapol C034 BP. The cut down is quite easy and I will add the detail to the instructions. I have 17 left, so with 1 at €7.50 or five at €32 first come... Edited February 4, 2013 by Weshty
Glenderg Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Des, nice work, though it's a bit cheap for a dapol kit and an etched brass kit for 7.50? I'll take the lot! (only messin, stick one in the post for uzz though, will ping on the squids in the morning.)

scahalane Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Looking good there Des, well done. Stick me down for 5.
Weshty Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 Sound men! And here are the optional burmah style catwalks (an extra €1.50 each)
scahalane Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Des have you any photos of both types of the real thing?
Garfield Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Des, what's the P&P? I'll stick money in the post for one in the morning. Will be ordering more later on...
Weshty Posted February 5, 2013 Author Posted February 5, 2013 Garfield, p&p is 1.50 (1 or 5) Scah, plaese see attached
Garfield Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Nice one, Des. I'll be in town tomorrow afternoon so I'll mail it off to you then!
RedRich Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Des that looks really good. No doubt it will be a winner. I was thinking about something like it for the weed spray wagons. I love it. Rich,
heirflick Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 any left des? i will take them, with new catwalks!

RedRich Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Weedspray wagons being considered... That's sounds very promising Des. I was planning to have an etch done for the latest weed spray coach based around the ones I already have for the GSV's. There wouldn't be as much work needed with there being no roof detail and gangways. Rich.
Weshty Posted February 5, 2013 Author Posted February 5, 2013 You can keep the orders coming in lads, I've ordered another batch this morning, so 10 -12 days et al...
Garfield Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Payment is winging its way to County Clare as I type this, Des...

Great idea Des to shorten the Dapol chassis and upgrade the detailing, I did the opposite several years ago extending the barrels of the Dapol tankers to turn them into ESSO tank wagons.
