Popular Post Patrick Davey Posted August 17, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 17, 2022 Today I had the great pleasure of viewing the stunning new Donaghadee layout in OO gauge by Gordon Hunt - it is currently on display in the town and is very much worth a visit by anyone within reach! So good to see another BCDR layout, and finished to such a high standard! And a special word of thanks to Gordon for his very warm welcome! I heartily congratulate him on this magnificent achievement - a wonderful project. Enjoy the photos! 18 1 1 8 Quote
jhb171achill Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 I love the fact that the station there was acually a much older "re-purposed" house - not a common thing on railways anywhere, not just in Ireland. Soller in Majorca is the only other one such that springs to mind. 2 1 Quote

LARNE CABIN Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Thanks for posting these photos @Patrick Davey, and many congratulations to Gordon Hunt on such an outstanding layout. The detail is magnificent! It is great to see another real location modelled and especially another real location in Norn Ireland. There are so many areas of interest and such attention to detail. Very, very impressive. 2 3 Quote
Galteemore Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Wonderful model. Special place in my family / c 1948 my dad was set on the footplate of a loco here. Although about 4, that assault on the senses of fire and steam and hot oil remained a firm impression. And that was that - a lifetime of obsession passed on to me! 2 Quote
airfixfan Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Where is it on display in Dinaghadee? 2 Quote
Galteemore Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Yes please for location - my dad wants to see it too! 1 Quote

Tullygrainey Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 (edited) I saw this layout in Donaghadee* yesterday. Really inspiring stuff! The accuracy and attention to detail are brilliant. DAVID WILSON Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Visited it this afternoon, what a truly magnificent detailed depiction of Donaghadee and friendly information from the modelling team. The video is of GN engine "Down" hauling Ulster Transport liveried coaches. 528307840_VIDEODONAGHADEEMODEL1180822.mp4 5 Quote
DAVID WILSON Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Even the inside of the trainshed has the advertisements on the walls where photos from the 1940s show them to be, and the front entrance shows the way through to the platforms. 3 Quote

The UTA period is much neglected among modellers, despite having much interesting potential content. This has it in bucketloads, complete with GNR section excursion onto BCDR metals. Nice train make up too - a BCDR 6-wheeler and two ex-GN coaches, all in an authentic UTA green. More please! 1 Quote
DAVID WILSON Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 If you zoom in on this 1940s picture on your pc you can see the ads for OXO and Players on the back wall. 5 Quote

DAVID WILSON Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 A MED (multi engined diesel) leaves in the Newtownards direction. Its intermediate coach is from the steam era. Contrasting front and rear liveries on this unit before the UTA finally settled on the rear one for all units. 1899710161_VIDEODONAGHADEEMODEL2180822.mp4 2 2 Quote
Mike 84C Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Those BCDR signals would tax my skills and cause a retreat to the profanarium. They look more spindly than any Scottish Co signals. 1 Quote

To be fair, they are probably the same as building any lattice post signal, e.g., LSWR, CR, LNER, etc., so go carefully with the soldering iron and use the minimum amount of solder that you can get away with. Those 5ft arms are seriously long, though.... 3 Quote
David Holman Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 Well that has, rightly, caused a stir! Remarkable.... 1 Quote

David Holman Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 Love all the scenic work, buildings and so on, specifically the quayside area. Really need to adjust the colours on my own layout on this evidence! 2 2 Quote
Steveb Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 Looks superb! I should have looked here a couple of weeks ago, I was in Donaghadee on 11th August... Two days later, I went to D&CDR. Steve Quote
