I remember coming across a Lima Catalogue of Irish Trains for a £1 but I did not buy it, something I have regretted since.

The next issue from the Murphy stable was the Green "Woolwich" N Class

BAC 32150Y K1 Class

It came unnumbered but with 3 different running numbers supplied, 372, 385 & 390

It was Paddys first venture with Bachmann and was issued in November of 1999, with 512 being produced.

Note the prices on the box's

£89.99 punts in 1999

€109 in Feb 2000 just after we entered the Euro.

 

 

 

 

And the cert, which only came with the Green (32-150y) loco.

It is the 1980 - 81 catalogue and it shows 2 Lima sets that were never produced

The next 2 N Class's were issued in September 2000 with 640 of each being produced.

 

32-150W the Matt Black version

The set was produced by Bachmann US, sold as a HO set but in fact was OO

Bachmann cloned the set from PMurphy as he did not own the rights to the parts, they were repainted Bachmann standard locos and coaches

They also released a range of the CIE Green coaches, again marketed as HO , all had different running numbers to the Murphy/Bachmann ones

The track was called E Z Track, still a bit of it about and again it was made by Bachmann

Sets came with a 110 transformer, which was removed from some sets.

Inexperience on behalf of Murphy Models I think

There were minimum amounts involved in producing the range of coaches and this option may have been offered by Lima rather than ordered by MM

His knowledge of the Irish scene at the time was non existent and I think he just went with what was offered.

August 01 saw the introduction of the long awaited Class 201's

L204790 Class leader 201 "River Shannon" in IE Livery

 

L205018 217 "River Flesk" in IE Livery

L205019 206 "River Liffey" in Enterprise livery

L205021 208 "River Lagan" in Enterprise livery

300 of each model produced

I propose to post pictures of all the models produced by Murphy Models in sequence from their days with LIMA to the current models produced by Murphy Models

 

Lima produced models of British outline stock

These were then offered to Lima agent in Dublin, Lexie Tynan

He then accepted or refused the sets and the accepted ones went on general release here

Towards the end of the 90's Tynan retired from the trade and Murphy Models began a relationship with LIMA that saw them produce some of the first authentic Irish railway models

This is their first attempt , set # L105100X33 released in 1997, possibly as few as 300 made.

It was released in the Lima Hobby Range line.

It was classes as a starter set,

It consists of a Cl33 repainted as an A Class # 015 This model had been produced by LIMA for Tynan and was accepted as an Irish loco at the time, the Tynan model was numbered 215.

Coaching stock consisted of a Mk 2D #5228 and a Mk 3 Restaurant # 7115

It also came with a traffo and track.

300 Sets believed to have been produced

 

When I see that model and I am transported right back to Noonan's Toyshop in Charleville in the 70's, and believe you me this place was alladin's cave, with knobs on. They even had petrol powered aeroplanes that you flew around and around tethered like a kite £13 in 1974. about €300 today?

August 2001 makes the lima 201 11 years old and i remember the excitement when it first appeared.It may be old hat to some modellers but it was the first real serious RTR modern Irish loco in my book and considering the money they have changed hands for in the past it speaks volumes about the demand that had existed before the new model was turned out.

Yes, you are quite right. I couldn't believe it when I saw the first photos of the model as it wasn't just a repaint of a British loco.

So to fully appreciate what Murphy Models were at, here we see him dealing with 2 different manufacturers at the same time

 

First coaches are 3rd/Brakes

Again only 300 of this coach produced

I have to say these are some of my favourite coaches, something about them just oozes class

Was that Leinster Models? They produced some O gauge kits at one point, as well as making stock for the Fry Model Railway.
