heirflick Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 lads, is there an air show on in the smoke on sunday? any details please? Quote
enniscorthyman Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 I am thinking of going myself.Any details would be great. And whos house can we call to after for the tea. Quote
Garfield Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 There sure is, but it's a fly-past as opposed to an air show: http://www.flightfest.ie/ Some tasty stuff participating, including a B-17 Flying Fortress, F-86 Sabre, Hawker Hunter, and restored Air Corps Chipmunks. Unfortunately, previously listed aircraft like the Avro Vulcan, Spitfire and A380 appear to have cancelled. Quote
heirflick Posted September 12, 2013 Author Posted September 12, 2013 great stuff pat...im definately going - poolbeg it is! p.s. eamonn, if we meet - your buying the first pint.....i mean cup of tea!! Quote
108 Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 That's still a good lineup but I ll be sad not to see the Vulcan. Quote
Garfield Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Aye... best stay in the south of the Liffey if you don't want to be blinded by the sun! Really wanted to see the Vulcan, too. However, the A380 has disappeared from the website but is still being advertised on the radio ads, so maybe... just maybe! Quote

Had a quick look at their FB page too, and see no mention of it been cancelled. There is some talk of the weather forecast for Sunday being bad, though.... Quote

Strange, it wasn't there when I checked it earlier. Anyway, it'll be nice to see one over Dublin! Fingers crossed the weather holds out! Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Forecast for Sunday is shtie, maybe go to the show in Stillorgan till the rain stops? Quote
108 Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Yup that's my plan. If it rains all day at least the day is not completely lost. Quote
Tarabuses Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 So what cloud level would scupper the fly past? Quote
aclass007 Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 The running order for Sunday...... http://flightfest.ie/latest-news/detail/running-order-for-aircraft-at-flightfest-now-available Quote
heirflick Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 for any of you lads that have a scanner, you can tune in on the action on 119.600 mhz AM:) Quote
aclass007 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 So, did anyone go? How was it? I decided against going, when I saw the forecast. Don't tell me Met Eireann messed up my plans yet again, for no reason! Quote
Grange Castle Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Watched it online and from the garden also had flight radar on ! Great selection of aircraft and the weather picked up. No rain for the show itself bit dull at times and windy but went very well I thought. I'm quite near baldonnel so i got to see a lot of aircraft lower than they would have seen in the city centre. The A380 even went over my garden Quote
Glenderg Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 It was a cracker of a show. Going down Buckingham Street toward Connolly and there's an A320 banking out of the clouds over Connolly. Mind blowing. Got home in time to see an A340 and the beast A380. Ryanair had "You'll never beat the irish" written on the underbelly, got a good laugh from the crowd. R. Quote
Garfield Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Fantastic line-up. In addition to the aircraft already mentioned, I loved the Hunter and Sabre, Catalina and B-17, and the Air Corps put on a great show too... especially the fly-past with both Casas and the PC9s (that one was memorable). Quote
Tarabuses Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Yes, the weather was kind and the display was excellent. Quote
enniscorthyman Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Great shots of the Airbus.I never had a chance to get to Dublin today. Quote
RedRich Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I watched it on the news this evening and it looked spectacular, glad the weather was good. Rich, Quote
Dave Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I'm raging I missed it, was at the Abbeyleix show. Quote
Grange Castle Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 (edited) For anyone who missed it today Aer Tv will be showing some of it on demand on their website. They had major problems streamig it live and their coverage is not exactly Sky Sports like, but it gives you an idea of what it was like, sit back and enjoy http://www.aertv.ie/live/flightfest/ I had this streaming live with laptop hooked up to the tv and flight radar on another screen while duckig in and out of the garden to see them overhead and to see the ones using Baldonnel take off / land. UP6936 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 The Flying Fortress that was at that show was doing a fly past at a US army cemetery near belfast yesterday, i went up to see it with my dad. Incredible plane, bigger than i expected too Quote
Garfield Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Reading through this thread again, it's amazing how many of us here are also aviation nuts! Quote
108 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Oh yeah. Lots of us about. It was a great day. The Sabre and the Flying Fortress stole the show. A380 and Catalina were spectacular too. A day to remember. Quote
Garfield Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Excellent pics from the day taken by The Wanderer. Link in his forum post here: http://www.irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/2372-Flightfest?p=35323#post35323 Quote
Barl Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 They're great pics Glenderg, it really is a beast of a plane! Was at the show myself, was very well organised and got a good viewing spot too! Only had the phone with me so photo quality isn't great. Here's a few snaps; Got a few short video's too, apologies for the sound it was very windy! Aircorp Casa's and PC-9's: A380: B17: Quote
heirflick Posted September 16, 2013 Author Posted September 16, 2013 (edited) it was a fantastic day - myself and 'she who must obeyed' went and got a spot at the quay side beside hammond lane scrap merchants. we were allowed on board a french cargo ship and had a great view from the deck. the aer corps did us proud with a fantastic fly past and the favourite of the day was the B17 ...the only thing missing was Arthur - but we found him on the way home!! josefstadt Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 An excellent afternoon, especially as the weather remained kind. Pity some of the smaller craft couldn't partake due to the wind but there was a great selection of 'heavies', culminating with the A380 of course. I can see great potential for Tara Junction, Amiens Street, Kirley Jct etc having scale models hanging from the ceiling! Quote
Tarabuses Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Was the non appearance of the smaller planes the reason for some others going around two or three times? Quote
josefstadt Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 I think that two passes was originally intended for all planes. But I think that you are right about the third being to fill in gaps. Quote
Glenderg Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 This is the playback of the flight paths for anyone interested, beginning with EIN2013. Takes a few seconds to buffer first. http://www.flightradar24.com/2013-09-15/12:45/12x/53.39,-6.21/11 R Quote
