BosKonay Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Very sharp looking David -= lovely work! And very reasonable price too! Quote
Garfield Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Hi David, Looks good! May I ask what is the total cost of the bubble, chassis, etched details and buffers? Thanks. Quote
Kirley Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Wow they look really good, just missing some pipe detail on the floor of the chassis or is that still to come? I think it was Murrayec announced some weeks ago production of Cement Bubbles but then his post disappeared? Do we have two producers of Cement Bubbles now - they say, "Competition is healthy". Quote

You wait for one to come along Kieran, and all of a sudden it's bubbles everywhere, from turned timber to plastic shells! Dapol will have to put on more lads for overtime squirting out the prestwin chassis! Quote
enniscorthyman Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 They do look nice, best of luck with them. Quote
dave182 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Has anyone ever made Dapol aware of the fact that the prestwins are the backbone of Irish modelling?? As in, could they do a run of RTR chassis for us? Just a thought Quote
BosKonay Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Leslie from Provincial Wagons would have good experience of it, but I assume something in the 250-500 wagon range would get a run made... Quote
Glenderg Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 This topic appears every three months or so, and from what i gather a minimum run is between 3000 and 5000, depending on the fabricator. http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/2876-Bell-20ft-reefers?p=45088&viewfull=1#post45088 Prestwin is here to stay..... iarnrod Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Wish someone would do a proper RTR Irish 20' wagon that would fit under both the bubble and bagged cement, and many other Irish wagons. Perhaps D&M Modelmakers or Weshty might consider it now that some lovely wagon top kits are becoming available. Based on the photos of Weshtys 40' and ammonia wagons and D&M's Enterpise and 2600 unit, we definitely have some excellent modelmakers ready to fill the void if one of them feel like making that giant step.......please? Warbonnet Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 My comment was more on a RTR prestwin Considering the tooling is nigh on 50 years old lets hope it doesn't wear out any time soon! Quote
David Posted March 11, 2014 Author Posted March 11, 2014 Hi David, Looks good! May I ask what is the total cost of the bubble, chassis, etched details and buffers? Thanks. Hi Pat, If you want all the parts supplied you're looking at 35 euro. Cheers! Quote

Hi Kieran, The intention is mainly just to supply the bubble and other main components if required. Details like pipework can be added by the modeller as desired. Quote
David Posted March 11, 2014 Author Posted March 11, 2014 Thanks very much for all the positive comments chaps! Much appreciated! Quote
Garfield Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Mod note: Thread split as conversation had veered off-topic. The discussion about the merits and possibilities of a RTR 20ft wagon chassis can now be found here: http://www.irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/3044-The-possibility-of-a-RTR-20ft-wagon-chassis Quote

Details like pipework can be added by the modeller as desired. Well done. This type of product is just what we need to encourage modellers to build their own rolling stock. Unfortunately I cant think of a prototypically sound reason to run a bubble train on my South Waterford line. Quote
UP6936 Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Maybe in the seventies a string of bubbles goes to Waterford docks to be filled or emptied? With a pair of 141s at the head. Or just run them because you can, that's how I ended up with a light blue 111 hauling CPWs on my layout Quote
