IE decided to test a new high-speed service connecting Dublin with Paris via Rosslare. They acquired a specially modified and reguaged version of the Franco Belgium Thalys sets for testing purposes. Unfortunately, the project was not proceeded with as a result of the financial crash.

With the delivery of the final batch of trees before Christmas, the landscapers were on site today and installed 50% of the delivery, then the weather turned bad and the chaps did a runner- being Friday n all!

Where did you get that nice gate with the traditional round stone gateposts?  The stone walls look very good too.

Hi jhb

The gate is from Studio Scale models- brass etch kit, you get a number of period gates to work with, the posts I made from styrene cut with hot wire cutter, all mounted on a brass sheet base yet to be stuck down and gravelled......

Sublime Eoin. Love it. Photo realistic.  Where did you get the custom wicklow back scene from? It looks like a photo taken just SE of the Glen-o-the-downs. Perfect for Greystones

Hi Noel

It's from Expo Tools - 95281 Hills & Dales, we bought 2 of them, it comes in 2 sheets each and we used 3 sheets for the length of the layout, one of the bridges & trees masks the join....

Thanks. I thought I read somewhere that there was a company who will print back scenes from your own photos. Any ideas. I'm keen to pop over to Co Galway and take a few wide angle shots on a sunny day with the distinctive connemara countryside and all the grey stone walls.

Hi Noel

Any print shop with large format printer or banner printer will do it for you- 'One to One' in Dun Laoghaire, Hackets, or Grants. If you set-up the artwork for A1 sheet or banner printing you'll save a bit on the cost

Say you email them 2 or 3 images.....what sort of cost roughly?

Hi jhb

I'm not to sure, you would need to give them a call!  I used to use Copy Graphics in Clonskea to do colour A1 prints in the architectural days- they charged €26 for the first print and then a lower cost for each copy- so at a guess if you set-up the artwork yourself possible a charge around €20.00??

Eoin, The trees and the layout look fabulous. Just one question did you make the trees or buy them, if bought can you say where you bought them?

Thanks

Hi Paddy

Thanks for nice comment,

The trees are a mixture- bought and home grown. The nice bought ones came from Modelrailbaseboards which are fabulous and made in Poland, there is a bit of a wait when ordered but their worth it. The home grown were done with Woodland Scenic armatures and sea-foam foliage stuck on- their a pretty close match to the bought ones, there should be a few pictures back up the thread.....

Hi Irishrailwayman

Your the second chap thinking its the Glen of the Downs, we did buy it because we also thought of the Downs

That back-scene pink truck got a make over in the paint shop;-

202386881_GS-221IMAG4171.jpg.9331f20f8858bd8ee35a1c2cdd4e5055.jpg

A bit of silver black on the truck, gloss white on the trailer, and gloss white on the 'Gold' wheels.

This is the set-up for that view of the truck coming out of the trees, the trailer is cut at the appropriate angle and dept, and the trees mask off the view to the missing end.

After cutting the trailer styrene ends were installed with 3mm dia magnets to stick the end back on if one decides to locate the truck n trailer elsewhere on the layout.
