Thanks for the nice shots. I can't believe they are leaving the livery that plain without any lining, even some understated thin lining. Its crying out for a little more delicate sophistication.

And, do they not have to have the contrasting doors? Maybe that doesn't apply if it isn't a "scheduled" train...?

What the heck, Gordan?! I had to look at you're North Wall photos a few times before I could believe it... but was that SHUNTING I saw going on there!! Great pictures, and incredible that freight has managed to pull through despite IE's best attempts to kill it off!

It's only a bit of shunting Dave, should be run of the mill stuff for the lads in NW!! But good to see IE surprising people, on the freight side they deserve more credit than they get and there are some very talented and hard working people involved in keeping the trains on time!

Evening folks,

Tonight's update to http://www.thewandererphotos.com contains the following:

Saturday:

After the dash to Athlone to capture 071 on Saturday's IWT Liner to Athlone I stopped off Shannonbridge to see if any action was occurring. Sadly all was silent.

Monday:

Pictures of the Belmond Trial to Cork at Clonkeen. Then later that day I was Killarney bound myself with images from Portlaoise, Thurles, Cork (more Belmond), Mallow, Rathmore and Killarney.

Thanks for posting. Slightly surprised how quickly the coaches got dirty and the new paint job seemed dull after only a few weeks exposure to the weather. It thought they would look sparking and shiny like the delivery photos for at least a few months.

Think thats a trick of the light. Zoom in on The 1025 Killarney - Waterford via Kildare passes Stagmount between Killarney and Rathmore. Tues 16.08.16

They are spotless.

(Superb shots Neil)

Perhaps, but this bit didn't look pristine. As you say it could be the light or reflection. And yes the photos are superb. If the coaches had gone through the wash in Heuston there could have been some dust or streaking as they dried.

To clear up the dirty carriages comments.

The train was washed last Friday at Heuston and was in great condition this morning. However in the Charleville area the train ran over freshly dropped ballast which had been done overnight. First train over it was the Belmond so it kicked up a lot of dust, also as some of the hopper windows were open it even set off the fire alarms which gave the crew on board some fright by all accounts.

Hopefully it see Heuston wash again soon!

That makes perfect sense. Thanks for the interesting info.

Some nice pics as ever. Love the video of the BGH creeping through the station. "Fermanagh" looked spotless. Looks like they had a test service team, chefs and some test pax on board as well. Seeing the Mk3's brings back memories of how comfy Mk3s were on long routes compared to the 22k tram buses with their back ache hard seats. Not sure what benefit and interior style refresh will achieve, it won't make the seats any more comfortable, won't reduce the engine noise nor improve ride comfort. Still better I suppose than a 2600 ride from Limerick to Ballybrophy! :)
