popeye Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 Here is a picture from the oo works web site showing the latest prototype picture of the 101 class J15 in all metal construction. 6 1 Quote
jhb171achill Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 (edited) Thanks to some research by 00 Works, and comparison with what as far as I'm aware is the only surviving sample of original paint, the correct shade of grey has finally been identified / matched. My understanding is that Roderick will be able to supply it for anyone modelling steam. Edited September 9, 2018 by jhb171achill 1 1 1 Quote
leslie10646 Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Sorry to report that this little loco is delayed by the supplier of wheels! Otherwise the job's complete. I had hoped to show mine at Raheny, but that now seems unlikely. He plans to deliver the grey ones first. Then the black. Folks, just be aware that while Roderick MIGHT one day do a Z-boilered version, it won't be for a few years, he tells me. So, if you want a J15 for your layout, now's the time to buy. 1 2 1 Quote
Richard EH Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 That's great news Leslie! Looking forward to seeing these delivered! Richard. Quote
jhb171achill Posted October 19, 2018 Posted October 19, 2018 I’m getting two....... not going to miss the opportunity! Quote
DiveController Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 Last time I looked the order book was still open on these Quote

leslie10646 Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 The wait is nearly over! My Informed Sources tell me that the driving wheels are due early next week, so the first locos should be completed pretty soon after that! Just in time to run Christmas extras! 2 Quote
DiveController Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 How timely. I just checked the site yesterday Still late 2018/2019. So maybe for Christmas then On 10/22/2018 at 4:54 AM, irishrail201 said: Excellent!!! Is that commercially available or had to be mixed specially? Quote

popeye Posted November 22, 2018 Author Posted November 22, 2018 Great news. I was starting to wonder. Quote
jhb171achill Posted November 23, 2018 Posted November 23, 2018 Hello from Thailand! Yes, that fits with what Roderick told me - I’ve two of the beauties on order. Can’t wait! J15s were the single most important locomotive ever to run in Ireland. Quote
heirflick Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Mine arrived today and I am disappointed with the cab build.....its very much slanted to the rear and looks as if it was rear ended ! What do ye think lads? Personally this would drive me nuts or am I been really particular? Quote

What do ye think lads? Personally this would drive me nuts or am I been really particular? I'm no steam enthusiast but to me that looks awful. I may be wrong but does the picture in first post on this thread seem to have a similar problem? Are these cast in one piece or is the whole loco assembled from separate sections? No offence but I wouldn't be happy if it were me! 2 Quote
Noel Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 It would upset me too but hoping when I open the box it is not afflicting the model inside. This is the sort of issue I associate with brass built kits. Quote
heirflick Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Well, I just emailed Roderick and is sending a replacement asap. Happy Days! 1 Quote
StevieB Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 I had exactly the same experience with Roderick in terms of problem and solution, so much so that I’ve bought a second one. Stephen 1 Quote
Andy Cundick Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Definitely iffy cab fit, tender springs look odd as they don't have any spring hangers.Andy. 1 1 Quote

DiveController Posted December 8, 2018 Posted December 8, 2018 Yes, that's not right. I'm glad you;re getting a replacement. Hopefully no issues with that or we're all in trouble 1 Quote
jhb171achill Posted December 8, 2018 Posted December 8, 2018 In reality, while obviously not intended in the model, it was not unusual to find locos with things like that in real life! Especially older locos that had been around a lot for a long time...... I saw some incredibly lopsided engines in normal service in India and Indonesia in the 1970/80s! 1 Quote

leslie10646 Posted December 8, 2018 Posted December 8, 2018 Thanks for showing that, David. It looks as if I'm wasting money on a Stay-alive chip - mind you, I'm sure the MRSI's track is fifty-times as well laid as mine! Sorry to hear about the wonky cab. I believe it is a separate "piece", as I believe Roderick told me he was going back to having a metal boiler - just the thing for an 0-6-0, giving it bags of torque and pulling power (like the redly thing!). 1 Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 Leslie, it was running on DC, so not chipped, maybe ask Kieran if it needs one? Quote
heirflick Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 (edited) Well fair play to Roderick and Rebecca of 00works....my J15 replacement arrived - and what a stunner! Happy Days!! Edited December 20, 2018 by heirflick 1 Quote
