Funny old hobby this

A couple of weeks ago I have never heard nor seen a Hornby "C.I.E. Superfreight set"

Now I have a second!

Different guy to the one I got the first one from

Both sets bought in Bray

I see there is a "Bests" price tag on this set

£19.95 in old money!

Anyone know anything about the shop?

Its a 1977 issue set so that will be somewhere to start from.

Hi Dave,

Good find Irish set, I check 'Bests' on Hornby International service dealer network date November 1976 list but found nothing.

I think the 'Bests' is a Toy shop such as Toysmaster and maybe someone brought from UK?

Steve, thanks for the input, I think they were a large department store and would have stocked sets for Christmas, so were not recognised as a srockist

Fran, the polly insert was generic and as the set only contains 4 wagons the "Extra Storage Space" stickers were placed in the empty slots,

The Slainte Express had a similar empty slot as it only contained 2 coaches whereas the similar UK BR version had 3

Quiet enough Kieran

Small event, at most there would be 10 traders and only 3 of them selling railway stuff, 4 if you count Baseboard Dave.

A lot of die cast and also books.

Small crowd as well, it was a pig of a day weather wise

Hopefully they are keeping their loot for the next one!

Yes Dave, you should have also mentioned the sub zero temprature in the building, that may also have had an effect on the numbers,

Wear a vest, Paul

Its mentioned in the little book you get when you retire

Some even wear 2 pair of socks!

Flash bastards

Dave, I have been looking forward to something more than a little book when I retire, so maybe I'll stay for a bit longer & things might get better,

I told you before:

WEAR A VEST!

Maybe a little bobble hat on your big mutton head as well

And dont be wearing your slippers!

Whenever anybody mentions a 'bobble hat', I find myself remembering the time that the coppers in Derby issued a description of a robbery suspect, but the poor bloke couldn't think of how to best describe the woollen hat that he was wearing - 'beanie hat' would have done, perhaps - but they ended up describing him as "wearing a bobble hat, without a bobble" - I still laugh about it now..!!
