Kilkenny Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Cheers lads! One depressing thing is that unlike you, Boskonay, i've barely got any Irish stock. I have to get a full rake of mk3s, mk2 generator van and restaurant coach, at least one more 201, another 141, obviously an 071 and a 121 when they come out, AND all the freight stock! Oh I know how it feels to want such locos! I'd love to see a model 071 hauling dfds or timber. Quote
201bhoy Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 Oh I know how it feels to want such locos!I'd love to see a model 071 hauling dfds or timber. I know!!!! I'm insanely jealous of people on here who have such a range of stock: Boskonay and Wiggy yous are so lucky!!!!!! Quote
201bhoy Posted July 27, 2012 Author Posted July 27, 2012 (edited) Damn... Cut myself within about 30 seconds of trying to trim sleepers on the upside, I trimmed the sleepers successfully in the end!!!!!! Edited July 27, 2012 by 201bhoy Quote
201bhoy Posted July 27, 2012 Author Posted July 27, 2012 As I was putting down the track today, I changed the design slightly as I thought my runaround loop was too small. I added a small loco stabling/ re-fueling point as well as changing the runaround loop. After arriving, the loco can either propel it's train back into the tunnel, and run around it's train in the fiddle yard, or, if the fiddle yard is full, a station pilot, probably a 141, will release the loco. The loco can shunt in the freight yard or refuel Quote
201bhoy Posted July 28, 2012 Author Posted July 28, 2012 (edited) I've nearly got the right half of the layout's track put down I tried my hand at ballasting for the first time in the loco stabling point. I think I used too much, but I don't really mind as it's meant to look kind of old and unkempt. Will put a few pics up later! Edited July 29, 2012 by 201bhoy Quote
Warbonnet Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 As it's North Wall, will you not need a container ship too? http://www.deansmarine.co.uk/shop/product_info.php/cPath/10_20/products_id/366 Not a bad price to be fair! Quote
201bhoy Posted July 29, 2012 Author Posted July 29, 2012 As it's North Wall, will you not need a container ship too? http://www.deansmarine.co.uk/shop/product_info.php/cPath/10_20/products_id/366 Not a bad price to be fair! Well, it's not actually North Wall anymore, but it is still a port! More like Rosslare though... Still don't know how to change the title of the thread I would consider a ship, but at the moment the sea and ships will just be shown as a back scene Quote
201bhoy Posted July 29, 2012 Author Posted July 29, 2012 And even if it isn't a bad price (I wouldn't know about prices for these things) it's still WELL out of my reach! Quote
201bhoy Posted July 29, 2012 Author Posted July 29, 2012 Here's a few photos of how the layout's progressing My first attempt at ballasting. I think I used too much but it's not the most crucial part of the layout so I don't mind that much. 220 idles in the siding while 177 goes past light engine 177 takes a break If yous have any tips please say Quote
RedRich Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 You're flying Vincent. It's great to see this whole project coming together from planing to laying of track and scenics. Keep us posted and well done . Rich, Quote

Admin Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Ballast looks great I reckon! What did you use to filthy it up? Quote
RedRich Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 You're doing fine Vincent just remember to have a practice on some waste board, track, or any rolling stock you are unsure about and you'll manage it in no time. It's a siding and it looks like a siding and that's what matters. Rich, Quote
201bhoy Posted July 30, 2012 Author Posted July 30, 2012 Ballast looks great I reckon! What did you use to filthy it up? If you're talking about the dark patches, it's just the glue I'd put down most recently And yep Rich, that's why I did the siding first Thanks lads! Quote
Retro Herbie Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Looks the job Vincent, always run a coach or wagon over before gluing to make sure all rails are clear. Quote
josefstadt Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Coming along nicely Vincent! Keep up the good work. Looking forward to more pics. Quote
201bhoy Posted July 30, 2012 Author Posted July 30, 2012 Coming along nicely Vincent! Keep up the good work. Looking forward to more pics. Thanks I'll put up more pics soon when I get more track laid and ballasting done. Quote
201bhoy Posted October 29, 2012 Author Posted October 29, 2012 Got some containers off Glenderg yesterday and just made a kind of backscene with them today... beautiful! I know this isn't really to do with the layout but they will feature a lot and I wasn't sure where to put this. Sorry about about poor camera quality, doesn't really do them justice! Quote
heirflick Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 they look fantastic...that lad is a pure genius! Quote
201bhoy Posted November 24, 2012 Author Posted November 24, 2012 Sorry I haven't posted anything in ages, layout's in the garage at the minute, and it's too cold and horrible to do any work in it! I'm bringing it up to my room tomorrow though and I'll hopefully have all the track laid and power installed by Christmas!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
BosKonay Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Yay!!!! Can't wait to see more of this! Quote
patrick Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Glad to see you back. Look forward to seeing more photos. Quote
201bhoy Posted November 24, 2012 Author Posted November 24, 2012 Yay!!!! Can't wait to see more of this! Yeah, I should have got way more of it done by now, but exams are over Wednesday and I can devote a lot more time to it now! I just couldn't work in the garage, it was horrible! Quote
Shinkansen Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Yeah, I should have got way more of it done by now, but exams are over Wednesday and I can devote a lot more time to it now! I just couldn't work in the garage, it was horrible! I hear ya... I have the attic for mine. No insulation or walls... My layout is on hold until these minor details are rectified! Nice shipping containers by the way. They make an excellent backdrop for a container yard. Good stuff Quote
201bhoy Posted November 25, 2012 Author Posted November 25, 2012 Yeah it's just so hard to be motivated to do anything in the cold and damp! And I love the containers too, they were done by Glenderg, as you can see on his workbench. And I think i will have some of them as the back scene for the container yard! Quote
201bhoy Posted November 25, 2012 Author Posted November 25, 2012 Finally got the boards moved up! Had a few hairy moments on the stairs! Quote
RedRich Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Good man Vincent, I can't wait to see more. Rich, Quote
201bhoy Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 Couple of pics... got nearly all the track laid down now, just need to finish the run-around loop and the freight yard Quote
201bhoy Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 That's just a tease! More please!! Sorry... Will send more tomorrow, but I have no on my phone more credit this month to send the photos! Quote
Retro Herbie Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Starting to take shape rightly now Quote
scahalane Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Coming along nicely, I had to look twice, I thought you nailed that layout to the wall!! Quote
201bhoy Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 Cheers lads, yeah you're right scahalane it does look like that! Quote
