New Rail Freight Service between Ballina & Waterford

Good news, anything that takes diesel trucks off our roads has to be a positive thing for both traffic and climate action. Will this Ballina traffic get to Waterford via Dublin or via Limerick? If the latter could it increase justification for reopening Claremorris to Athenry for freight?

Presume this Ballina / Waterford service hasn't started as yet even though it was scheduled for the end of June?

Wouldn't have thought the issues at Dublin Port and the IWT liner would have affected this.

Just that l am getting withdrawal symptoms not seeing container trains....

When I looked at the photo I thought the man in the hi vis adjacent to the loco was holding a VERY long piece of wood!!!

He can vault from there to Strabane goods yard, to see the CDRJC / GNR interchange sidings...........

The XPO liner is scheduled to begin in the next two weeks.
