  1. I bought stuff monday 10pm from IRM, it arrived today, if thats down time, busy time, ye must be setting land speed records for deliver times when your not drinking hot whiskey.
  2. i think i will cancel my order, and wait for the model of daves photos above with the engine stripped down, looks fab to me
  3. being a newbe, i learnt loads from both progs, the first was tame, I enjoyed second one best, and so much unfinished history, editors couldnt decide who to offerd with "' playing, enthusiasts, modellers, toys, " ' who cares, its all good, bar the 'electrified cat'
  4. if you model a branch line from belmullet to the far end of the penensula, to blacksod light house and/ or customs house down a wee bit over the side road its a fine building and had a great walled garden, its still there, and you have to include Una's bar next door, one of the friendilest places in Ireland. this way if you follow the road the track from belmullet could transverse salt marsh, sand dune and storm beaches galore, no matter what era, you could have smugglers, and best of all the most colourful old fishing trawlers right next to the end of the line at the pier. with landscape compression you could have the gas terminal flares every so often.
  5. and another one on basset loock after it
  6. fantasy going nuclear, all these new engines. A's, 121's i am so glad i started modelling in past two years, its been a great time, for Irish modelling, a golden era, by the comments of all ye drooling men, you will all be broke by year end, so cancel the holidays, and if RTE news today is correct, with a mini nuclear power station being touted for moneypoint, sure you'll all be pulling nuclear flasks, with all these new Irish locos.. the though of ammonia trains crashing into nukes in limerick Junction.. now thats what my Kids consider worth modelling

  8. Hi, Ironroad, I new to site as well, so i wont say welcome, for now i'll leave that for the senior members, I am also reading through these pages with fascination, Lima represent to me an era of simple modelling, i run carraiges-coaches on my new layout, for they ideal for kids to play trains with, cheap enough to allow them to handle, tough enough so they dont get 'weathered' by kids, and the plastic is wipe-able! and for some reason they run great to test my new laid tracks, esp' before i place/test the more modern and more expensive models. The wheels are wider than more recent models and thats great for testing/getting my turnouts running, before there set as perfect for new models, and best of all they uncouple easy, which for a newbe is a real challenge with more expensive models. I also love the feel of lima models, even if they aint accurate of prototype, to me, they are fun and represent an era of simplicity in design. and its so nice to see made in Ireland on stuff. i dont know if i will be able too, but changing the dc locos to dcc will be a project i have long fingered for the golden years.
  9. so you havn't read...

    IRM Fert Wagon

The corrosion and rust on fertilizer wagons must have been fast and furious, even if bagged, those bags musta occasionally burst, i suppose modelling the prototype requires a lot of weathering. The thought occurs, fert, ammonia, coal, cut timber, oil and cement wagons were all hauling the materials that were corrosive and went along way towards causing climate change. The sperry used a number of chemicals, many still present in the watertable, even roundup has many detractors. Some guinness kegs destroyed families where drink got outta control. Your capturing an Era of immense environmental destruction, All on a rail system that these days is an answer to climate change and more. Ballast, and molasses was probably one of the few not so polluting main stream goods hauled.
  14. thanks,
  15. in the early 1980's the net train was paint bombed, i remember seeing the wagons and locos covered in bright pink, blue and cream splodges as they passed through Dalkey. it was locals protesting against the danger of ammonia in urban areas. some years later i heard a big fire was lit on the wicklow line, again in protest.
  16. nice one, i understand the magnet and the reed, what make accessory is the reed attached to?
  17. Question, with IRM A's loco release, will the IRM logo above have to change, to a loco curving towards us ,(face forward) and some wagons in tow instead of the current flat wagon rake. if the existing rake logo was made smaller, the loco would fit and the logo change would drive collectors mad, as is it would be known as the early wagon only logos on the box or PA, post A release new logo??? he, he, dont mind me, i just taking the proverbial.
  18. Derailed, it was over priced, i was prepared to pay 20.00 but since its one of the few pieces of coal train history that thousands of people will see in castlecomer discovery park coal museum for many years, so penny for penny its well worth it, and the rest will go to good homes.
  19. didnt sell, i made offer, it was acepted, then refused, then offered again, too late, spent me hard earned cash else where
  20. thanks
  21. thanks, should i download the entire auction catalogue pics onto this site somewhere, including the next auction and the past one from two years ago, it would make a good archive
  22. i thought you ment lethargic, but i googled lartigue,
  23. re: Rust comments above, i have a love of rusty history, i dont have any railwayana stuff, just some old tools, but with TLC rust can be revived using a gentle clean and lots of Owatrol oil, its expensive but keeps the history of each item including metals and wood, sure arnt all ye modellers painting rust onto everything???? Owatrol oil, fills the rust so air and moisture can no longer eat away at the metal there are folks who get old historic pieces and sand / glass blast historic items to look new - shiny bright, I personally think it ruins old items, removes there history and destroys the story of the item. as for the comments about the rust buckets, those pitch forks, canal spades (rutters) and other tools at the auction are made by blacksmiths, the same guys who built the first steam engines, they are our heritage and are priceless. so take care of them and enjoy the skills or hundreds of years of heritage.. i would like to know before i hand it into museum,
  24. you lot can decide if it dont cause an argument whats the comer piece ??? its no badge
  25. JHB171achill, Thats the best idea so far, lets see what people recommend, but i have no problem with your suggestions,
