With some of the incompetent fools who get their hands on operating that layout it’s probably wise to take precautions
-
Wow. Even unpainted the quality and detail just shines out

They inspire a lot of my kit construction - all the right bits are there but not necessarily in the right order….. -

Very capable machine. One of the class still holds the Belfast-Dublin record -

Most interesting to see 171 with a high tender. This was characteristically associated with 174 in latter days of the Derry Road. Hopefully 171 will give you a good run to Thurles. -
Don’t think it reached working pressure - too many leaks. But here she is in steam - of a kind - on that day in 1975
-
You ever been to Derry? Yes, I’ve seen a written account of it
-
Think we are talking about two FVR - Foyle and Finn. The 1990s one was located at the museum in Derry and occasionally ran trains on the old GNRI trackbed out towards Carrigans. The other FVR at Fintown still runs at times. There was yet another CDR revival at the old Victoria Road station in Derry which ran the odd railcar up and down- I dimly recall a trip in the 70s. They had one of the tank locos there and one day lit a fire in her, but she could not hold steam so nothing amounted from that sadly !

Looks very good indeed ! Love the lurking Swilly loco at the back

IRM Latest! All Aboard The Enterprise And Matching Hunslets!

A loco used North and south is the criteria then ? Here’s one, which crossed the border several times a day ! -
Very gentle rubbing with a damp cotton bud (damp with IPA )might help

Yes, that’s probably food grade stuff, with a protective coating. The exact words of an expert builder on Gauge O Guild forum, who creates coarse scale old school models is ‘ a downside of tinplate is that it will corrode if left unpainted’. Presumably he is talking about commercially available flat sheets of tinplate rather than salvaged food containers.

Hauled by a VS of course, as Rugby specials were back in the day

What a horrible experience for you both! Hope you can get everything straightened out and find some energy for making things soon. Sorry not to see you at Tonbridge today - here’s to the next time….
