Colour photo from about 1974 RHM Agriculture hgv. The red did vary a bit often it was nearer fire engine red. But its interesting that the rail wagons in Ireland were painted in such a similar style. And before anyone asks I'm not in that shape now !

Hi John, agree about the fascination for grain wagons, maybe because I worked for Ranks agriculture division before it was sold to Dalgety. The red and black is the same livery as our trucks were painted. I cannot remember RHM owning grain wagons this side of the pond. They were a good firm to work for a " dead men's shoes job". In Ernie's Monaghan photo there's at least five grain wagons 2/3 CIE H van conversions behind the first two hoppers. You can see the ladder that reached the roof hatches on two of them.

That looks really good Noel, I also replaced with wire the brake hangers and step supports it makes such a difference. And I put a brake cross beams between the brake blocks plus a longtitudal fake pull rod. A really nice kit thats a pleasure to build, it looks so good behind a J15

Any ideas as to the purpose of the small casting each side of the doors on the MGW convertibles? I wondered if they were for grain in bulk but I would have thought that grain was in 2, 1/4 cwt sacks at that time period. In one of the photos, lets call it a vent, appears at a different angle so maybe open?

Thanks Noel and jhb cream or beige is what I wanted to hear. It should make the in cab detail stand out, not that I'm putting much in there, seats, control desk and a driver.

What colour would the cab interior have been on A, B, C class diesels when they were painted in the light green livery? Difficult to tell from the photos I have browsed. I am not sure I want it to be green but knowing Inchicore .............! that's my luck!

There's a guy on RM web rue-d-etropal who also has a Shapeways shop Recreation 21 and he does MGW 6whl Lav 1st and 6whl all 3rd both @ $69.60 coaches seem to be his forte as he also does several Ashbury designs for other railways. Who is gong too be first to do a Clayton railcar!? thats there as well. 14 pages of stuff! All his models are in White Natural versatile plastic. Anyone got experience of this medium? Just asking before I flash the cash!

The best loco lamps for modellers are from Lanarkshire Models . www.lanarkshiremodels.com worth a look. I have used their lamps and buffers , very quick service and I do not think they are expensive. Just a happy customer.

I bought GP9 handbrake wheels from Details West in the USA for my cattle wagons and before Leslie produced his kit, still not yet fitted!. I cannot put my hand on them to post a picture but I'm sure you can find an illustration. Mic

Ger, thanks for your comments. Its amazing just who reads this forum and the stuff that gets turned up, now we know who to really pester if we need information!, Bantree (John ) has done all the buildings so far and the group is doing general scenic work. I have done a few wagons and locos a couple of coaches. Maybe one day Bantry will visit Bantry! Stay healthy and happy. Mick

Ironroad , that is a brilliant summary thank you . My weathered K is lined black and white, I think my heavy weathering deceives the eye? and I took a lot off before I was happy with it! Looking at the pictures again I realise that I have not fitted the snifting valves on the footplate or smokebox front , nor injectors and associated steampipes and I have tablet catchers, so lots to do yet! Pretty dumb as all the parts are sat in a drawer. Southeastern Finecast are a very helpful firm and will supply lots of the detail parts we need in whitemetal. I am just a very satisfied customer. Why is there such a shortage of toilet paper ? Here in rural Lincolnshire its an endangered substance and talking of which, tates thousands of tons grown here and more chickens live in Lincolnshire than people, well they do for 34 days till the next lot come along. Both missing from local Tesco this week. Best get in early for the silver shoppers hour!

Narrow Planet do the GSW cast number plates, I have used several and they are very good. Check the website. Southeastern Finecast will sell a white metal cast Wainwright pattern dished smoke box door and I think Andrew at 51L has etchings for the circular GCR/LNW pattern smoke box door handles. And if you really fancy a K1 without to much expence buy a Bachmann N1 on ebay and remove the BR/SR details, its not hard.

BtheB I like Peco code 75, works well, robust but will take a bit of abuse, a good range of switches and crossings, easily modified for DCC, lots out there on the s/h market ( or there is this side of the Irish Sea). New is stocked almost everywhere. Works for me.
